Where to buy fresh roasted coffee in the city?

As I mentioned in a thread in the drink section I have just gotten back into drinking coffee, actually just getting into it really. I have not done any research on the matter but where are some of the better places to buy FRESH (within 1-2 days) roasted coffee?

I know Intelligentsia, Metropolis, and Costco sell it, but is this something that is very common?

Sorry, as of right now been roasting at home, but thought I would see where I might be able to pick some up already done.

Metropolis I believe recommends you drink their coffee within 5 days of buying it directly from them- you can find it at Whole Foods, but check that date on the package first! That said, I'm not as big a coffee drinker as I used to be- I drink espresso and (gasp) diet coke more now.

Casteel has a chalkboard showing which beans were roasted on each of the past 4 - 5 days.

Some Whole Foods roast their coffee on-site and label the bins with the roast date. Their coffee is called Allegro.

My neighborhood Whole Foods (Ashland at School) does *not* roast their own coffee. In fact, their beans seem to sit out for nearly two weeks before they are replaced.

Off the top of my head, I can't remember which WF roast their own. Hopefully someone else can chime in with info. The best bet is the newer/large stores.

Peterson/Cicero Whole Foods roasts coffee on site. I have not tried it, so can't comment on the quality.

Bridgeport Coffee Company roasts their own beans in the Filbert Root Beer factory. I like their "Bubbly Creek" blend.
