NW or N Suburban Restaurants with nice private rooms

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before.
Are there any recommendations for restaurants with nice private dining rooms for 10 people and for 25 people for special occasions?

I hosted a party for my sister-in-law on Friday night at D&J Bistro in Lake Zurich. They have a nice room in the back suitable for larger parties, we had around 35 for drinks and appetizers, and managed to fit a DJ in as well. The owners are very accommodating...

For the northern suburbs, this post lists four restaurants in Evanston with private dining rooms.

In the northwest suburbs, I know that the Barn of Barrington has them, too.

We had a wedding rehearsal dinner for 20 last year in a private dining room at Dover Straits in Mundelein, and it was just about perfect.

From what I remember, diners had a choice of 4 or 5 entrees, and it came with soup, salads made fresh at the table, entree, dessert, coffee. Before tip or booze it was around twenty bucks a head, maybe a little less.

Dover Straits gets a bad rap sometimes for being a geriatric hangout, but I must say they have the whole dining experience down pat, they treat their customers with respect (many nouveau places could learn a thing or three from Dover), and the fish (esp. salmon and Dover sole) is fresh & prepared very, very well.

What's there not to like?

Just a few weeks ago had a party at the Wildfire in Schaumburg, which has a very generous Supper Club menu that features family style all-you - care to eat entrees and sides and yes that also includes Steak... very reasonable at 30-35 per person.

Also Morton's does have private dining rooms.

We have had a few family events at the Rosewood Restaurant in Rosemont. They have several private dining rooms of various sizes--one would surely fit your needs.

Food and service have always been terrific.

Another place we've used (several times a year) is the Black Ram Steakhouse in Des Plaines. The food is phenomenal (best prime rib in the Chicago area, great steaks, great seafood), and they can work with you either to let your guests order off the menu or to create your own customized menu. They also have rooms of all sizes; I've been in one of their smaller rooms with groups of 4-10, and in their "board room" with groups of 20-40. Don't know where you are, but, ANGELINOS RESTAURANTE in MOKENA Illinois is FANTASTIC. Located at 9301 W. 191st St in Mokena. near expressways, great Food. i'm proud to be a Patron of this establishment.
Owned by the Valente Family from the Roseland Area. italian Food and more A DELIGHT!!!! Give it a try. They have a banquet room for Business meetings, they Cater, and the Service is Impecable.

Actually, to Mokena... yes, it is.

Of course, as an LTHer, I'm happy to travel long distances for a great meal. Heck, the best meal I've had this year was at Tallgrass, and that's nowhere near where I live.

However, if I were arranging a meal for a group of non-LTH people located in the north or northwest suburbs, would I choose a place fifty miles away? Especially when there are some very good ones in the area where they are located? Not on your life.

BTW, luvtoeat, many restaurants with private rooms have descriptions and/or photos of the rooms on their website. The website also usually has the contact information for their staff person in charge of banquet arrangements. During the planning process, they'll be happy to show you their rooms, discuss your menu requirements, etc. This is true of most such places.

I just moved back to the Chgo. area from Michigan recently. In michigan you need to travel 25 miles to get to a good restaurant. So the trip would'nt phase me a bit. Actually It really isn't a bad trip to Mokena and the food is well worth it anyway.
I have to laugh, [sorry], when someone says that Mokena is too far to travel to. guess i'm just a 'willing Traveler". No offense meant.

Yes, it's a bit different here. Partly because of the travel patterns, where distance isn't always reflective of time (25 miles can mean well over an hour during commuting times). And partly because it depends on the options available where you're coming from. Traveling 50 miles from, say, Kankakee to Mokena may be perfectly reasonable, given the relatively limited options in Kankakee and given the lighter traffic in the more rural (but developing) space in between. But driving 50 miles from one part of the Chicago suburbs, where there are already plenty of dining options, to the other side of town is generally not done. Especially when planning trips for groups of others.

Heck, if I lived in Michigan, I know I'd be traveling longer distances all the time. For example, if I lived in Grand Rapids, even though that city has lots of excellent dining options (e.g. Leo's, Bloom, Bistro Bella Vita), I'd be a regular at Everyday People Cafe in Douglas, 40 miles away. Just because it's that good.

well, that was my point. I don't mind driving from say Bartlet to Mokena if the food is worth it. It's really not that bad of a drive. Xways almost all the way. You get there quick enough.
Anywho, what I'm saying is the food at Angelinos in Mokena is excellent and the prices are very fair. A good wine list too.

One of the things that I like about LTHforum.com is that there is "thread drift". A thread might start with a question about a party room in the northern suburbs, move to a party room in the southern burbs, and move to other restaurants south of the city.

Other websites specialize in the question-answer-new thread model: a person asks "Where should I eat in Roscoe Village?" Then you get a few answers and the thread dies. Two months later someone asks the same question and the same cast of characters post their recommendations. These websites tend not have as much continuity and discussion as we have here.
