I am planning a trip to Pitt in Feb or March to see the Penguins. I don't know anything about the city. I have searched the threads for info about quality places and found most of the info from multiple years past. I remember seeing a PBS special on Hot Dogs. It mentioned a place called the "O"? Any Good? The people going are big fans of the dogs.

Any current suggestions? Top 1 or 2 since we will only be there for an overnight.

    Thanks for the help.

I highly recommend lunch at Tessaro's.

Here is a threadwhich started off about Tessaro's, then veered into other topics.

We recently had an exceptional meal at Vivo just outside PGH.

The "O" is the Original Hot Dog Shop. Superb natural skin hot dogs, best fries in the US, bar none. Don't get any size larger than the "medium" fries. The offensive line from Da Bears couldn't finish the "large."

They've got an excellent selection of beers, and there's seating of a rudimentary sort inside.

If you're going to be there on a Saturday morning, be sure to visit the Strip, get some grilled sausage from the street vendors and a fish sandwich at Wholey's.

Two ideas - and neither will cost you much.

Primanti's is a local landmark and serves some interesting sandwiched.

Abate's near the Pittsburgh Water Work, is an interesting Italian bistro that serves really good pizza and fish sandwiches.

    Both places have good websites.

There's a fair amount of good food in Pittsburgh. What kind of food are you looking for? Cheap eats, hot dogs, sandwiches, local specialties, tablecloth places - there are some good restaurants around town. Also will you be driving (in which case, nothing in Pgh is far away) or taking a cab?

Also do you know which day of the week you will be here? If you are planning a trip to the Strip - Saturday morning is probably the best day (not that others aren't good). I'd start with breakfast at De Luca's

If you have a bit more info - I can be more specific in my recommendations.
I'm really hoping to be able to get some information on Pittsburgh on the board in the next few weeks.
Here's an Index to Pittsburgh posts on LTH. I'll try and keep that updated as well.
