We were at Sweets and Savories yesterday evening (Thursday Nov. 15) for a Beaujolais nouveau dinner, and were flabbergasted by how few people showed up (only about 13). Apparently, a number of diners canceled at the last minute -- their loss and unfortunately the restaurant's as well. For $50 (plus tax and tip) it was incredibly reasonable. We started out with assorted charcuteries -- prosciutto, two kinds of salami, dried beef, duck pate, along with a delicious and very creamy brandade de morue (salt cod and potatoes). This was followed by a vichyssoise with truffle oil; a seafood stew with clams, mussels, and haddock(?); a kind of cassoulet with duck leg confit, white beans and sausage; boeuf bourgignon with lots of mushrooms; cheese (4 kinds); and five desserts to split among four diners (lemon tart; flourless dark chocolate cake; bread pudding; pumpkin cake; and a fruit/cheesecake. All this with all the Beaujolais nouveau you could drink (Beaujolais nouveau can be touch and go, but I liked Dave's selection.) Catherine thinks (rightly) I should have posted this on the board. Mea culpa.
By the way, Sweets is offering a "Thanksgiving" prix fixe menu for $35 from Friday to Sunday.
