Looks like a total of 14 (thanks Pucca for the tally).
Could somebody refresh my memory on how many cookies per person. Thanks.

If numbers stay at this amount we can do 10 cookies each.
If this is OK please let me know or if you want to do less.

Do we need to bake extra for sampling during the party?

10 cookies, or 10 DOZEN? (I had assumed dozen)

i think cookiemonster is thinking 10 cookies of each type for each person coming. ie; at the moment we are 14. so that would mean we each bring 10x14=140 cookies. if we go to the max. of 20 people, we'd each bring 10x20=200. (if we have 20 people, maybe we could cut back to 8x20.)

on the question of extra cookies for sampling while at the party, it's just one person's opinion, but i'm guessing that we will all be making cookies of varying batch size. and therefore, why not just pool all the excess cookies and eat them at the event? for example, let's say we each need to provide 140 cookies. i consult my recipe and decide i'll need to triple it to have enough. but tripling it means i end up with 150 cookies. i can distribute the 140 to the 14 boxes (1 per guest) and 'donate' the extra 10 to the pool for eating.

Really, there's no need to overthink this. Cookies are good; we will bake many cookies; and they will be eaten, so mote it be.

I figure doubling any given recipe will yield more than enough.

This all sounds good to me.
Remember I will have some food goodies for everyone to eat at my place anyway so don't overdo it on the cookies, although it will be HORRIBLE if I get stuck with extra cookies!

So the rules are 10 cookies per person and we bring copies of our recipe to share amongst the attendees, we bring about 14 cookies extra so people can taste. Obviously most people will not be tasting their own cookies so we can discount them. So what is the final tally of people attending? How should I post my address so the general public will not have access to it? Sorry I am technologically challenged

I will regretfully have to decline the invite after all my worries about baking 20 dozen cookies.

I'm going to a concert the night before and will probably not be out of bed early enough the next day to make it in time. But please post all the details so I can pretend I was there!

    Hi fellow LTHers,

I'm so sorry for this rather late notice but I have to back out of this cookie exchange that I've been looking forward to so much. There's been a death in the family and I'm sorely needed. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, especially to Cookie Monster, who has been so kind to host this event. I hope you enjoy yourselves and have a great time!

...on the other hand... snickerdoodles are delicious and underrepresented, i think, in the cookie world. they are a great, old fashioned cookie. whatever you decide will be delicious, i'm sure.

I just finished making 3 more batches of my recipe. This process included making the dough, refrigerating the dough, rolling out the dough, making the filling, spreading the filling over the dough, rolling the dough back up, and now there are 4 logs of cookie dough sitting in my frig. I'm tired! I'm so glad I took PTO tomorrow. My oven will probably be on for 2.5 hours when all is said and done! I was paranoid that quantity would compromise the quality so I made the dough one batch at a time. Maybe it's a little overkill, but it's just not a risk I want to take!

I'm with you, Pucca! (I'll document the next recipe I do.) Also, I didn't like how the recipe came out, so I had to re-engineer a couple batches (one of which is now dog cookies :) ) and thus, am a bit behind where I'd planned to be. Baking frenzy commences after Sparky hits school.

I never would have put this much effort into a cookie if it was for us :D !

Just to be clear, are we doing 12 dozen or 10 dozen?

Are we packaging them for each person, or just bringing them and divvying them at the exchange?

i know that cookie monster will be providing boxes, so just bring your cookies and we'll divide them up at her house. about the number to bring..pucca are you still keeping a head count? i think we have 13, but i'm not sure. (and i guess there's no need to make cookies for yourself, if you want to make a smaller amount, so if we are 13 bring 12 dozen).

anyway, this is supposed to be fun, not a cause for stress, which it sounds like it has become for some of you. so bring what works for you and for your recipe, even if its a few cookies short of a mutiple of 10. i'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. just joan

Thanks for the update - I am not catching on to how many to bring though  when you say 12 dozen, do you mean to bring 144 cookies???? Or bring around 12 cookies total? Thanks again, looking forward to meeting you all and having a major sugar high!

    Post #90 - November 30th, 2007, 9:19 am Post #90 - November 30th, 2007, 9:19 am
definitely closer to 144 than 12, messycook. the idea is for everyone to get about 10 of each type of cookie. so if there are 13 of us you either bring 130 (which includes 10 for you) or 120 (which excludes yourself). we will each go home with 120-130 cookies to eat or share. but every recipe makes a different number of cookies. some might make 30, others 40 or 25, so when you are figuring out how many times to increase your recipe , it might not equal exactly 120 or 130. so dont worry. it is a substantial job to make 120 cookies. which is why some, like pucca and mhays have already started. if you bring less, than everyone gets less. even if we only get 4 or 6 or 8 that'll be fine, if that works for you. AND DONT FORGET TO XEROX AND BRING 13 COPIES OF YOUR RECIPE. eating the cookies will be fun, but even better will be having some recipes that we really liked to use in the future. i hope that's a little clearer.
i'm a pastry chef, as is cookiemonster, so it's nothing for us to make 130 cookies. for the rest of you, please dont stress out about this. it should be easy to multiply your recipe. you might have to make several batches depending on the size of your mixer, but cookie recipes, in general, are easy to multiply. if you bring less than 120 cookies you will still be very welcome. we'll share equally. any other concerns- please share those as well. it'll be my first cookie exchange and i'm really looking forward to it. justjoan
