I was discussing Thanksgiving with a couple of my ex-pat European friends, and the talk turned from turkey to other fowl, and then to how difficult it is to find goose in the area (unless you're golfing or flying a plane) I did see frozen goose along with the turkeys at Whole Paycheck, but I'm betting if I throw this out there, you all will be able to find one better, faster and cheaper. Any ideas? Uncooked is a must, so Sun Wah (my first thought, though those are probably ducks in Ronnie's pic) is out.

The Dominick's in my 'hood (on W Chicago + N Damen) had frozen goose next to the turkeys as of last night.

Harrison Poultry almost always has goose, but you'd have to call ahead if you want it fresh.

    Harrison's Poultry Farm Inc
    201 Waukegan Rd
    Glenview, IL 60025
    (847) 724-0132

For really fresh, you might consider a live poultry shop - could either be an important education or a life-changing trauma for Sparky. I'd call first to make sure they have geese in stock.

    Chicago Live Poultry
    6421 N. Western Ave.
    Chicago, IL 60645
    (773) 381-1000

    John's Live Poultry
    5955 W. Fullerton Ave.
    Chicago, IL 60639
    (773) 622-2813

I also see then on occasion at the usual grocery stops, but it's hit or miss.

You could also check with your local butcher about ordering or reserving a goose (if they have them but might run out). Stop by or just call and ask. I've done this with various large orders (country hams, etc.) at Paulina Market:

    Paulina Market
    3501 N Lincoln Ave
    Chicago, IL 60657
    (773) 248-6272

[note: their website lists only smoked poulty items, presumably since that's what they ship; their in-store selection includes fresh birds]

    Or try

    Lincoln Quality Meat Market
    4661 North Lincoln Avenue
    Chicago, IL 60625
    773.561.4570

    or Kurowski's
