    Hi,

It's not too late to sign up for the holiday party!

If your name is on the list as unpaid, then please refer to the original post for payment instructions. Your prompt response in settling this matter is appreciated.

I'm getting pretty excited about the party. Since folks are "advertising" their gift exchange gifts: I'm bringing a few things I picked up at the West Side Market while I was in Cleveland over the weekend.

I will raise this question with Dan Raskin prior to the event. If it's possible to park in the lot, I will post to that effect.

Just a quick note to say that I'm about to pony up for myself and the Lovely Dining Companion. Also wanted to mention that our contribution to the raffle will be a small package of items picked up last week while in Rome (Italy, not New York). There's a guy at Campo di Fiori, Mauro Berardi, famous for his herb mixtures--everything from arrabiata to bruschetta and at least a couple dozen others. We'll bring some of those as well as a bottle of liqueur from one of the monasteries we visited and, if I can pry it out of my own tight fists, some torrone from Volpetti's as well.

I'm holding out on sending in my money because my 87 year old father is in the hospital and I never know when I will be called upon. I really want to go though so I'll take care of this just as soon as I'm comfortable with my situation. Sounds like a great evening.

    Party update

We are fortunate to have secured the musical services of the Northside Southpaws, purveyors of “Archaic country and obsolete ragtime, performed on left-handed resonator instruments.”

Jean, there likely will be some people who can't make it though they have paid, and others who will want to come after the deadline. So, the lowest risk play is to buy tickets and then sell them back to someone who wants to come if you can't make it, though if there are not too many folks who want to join after the date, you probably can get on board later that way, too (less sure, though).

Sorry to hear about your father, and hope you can make it. That way you can meet the Bride and we can plan the next west suburban outing!

As to the musical entertainment, sounds like this is pre-Naderesque in its planned obsolescence (is there an emoticon for a groan?).

I really hope you guys can make it but if not, we'll just have to plan another get-together.

Thanks so much. I just mailed my check! Can't wait to see you guys and meet everybody. I haven't been to Manny's in probably 5 years. I love having these excuses to come into the city again. We'll definitely plan some other outings. Vie is always at the top of my list along with the other places I keep reading about from all of the knowledgeable people here.

I'm thinking of bringing some Tomato Vinegar that I purchased in France for the raffle. Is that appropriate?

There's never been an inappropriate gift offered at these raffles. Honestly. we set the target at around $10 to keep people from getting too extravagant, and, of course, you don't need to bring a gift at all if you're not interested in being in the raffle. The vinegar sounds cool, though, and just the type of non-mainstream food item that LTHers seem to dig a lot.
