I figured after a week of turkey leftovers, 8 kinds of herring might be a nice change of pace. So let me know if you’re interested in attending Tre Kronor’s annual julbord on Friday, November 30 at 8. Tre Kronor is at 3258 W. Foster and the julbord is in the upstairs room. $46.95 per person, BYO. Space is limited and fills up fast. I reserved 6 spaces and can possibly get a few more if people are interested.

Information about past julbords is here, here, and here. It’s a lot of fun and a nice introduction to this GNR if you’ve never been or only had breakfast there.

Is anybody signed up for this? If not, let me bump it. The Julbord is one of the coolest culinary events of the holiday season, I highly recommend it for a chance to check out a cuisine which used to be much more common in Chicago and has now largely disappeared. And you may not think you'll be fascinated by a choice of a half dozen different kinds of herring, but trust me, you will. Recommended by Studs Terkel!

Thanks, Mike. I think it's a great event, too, but I've been eating herring since I was 3 so it's kind of a gimme.

I have several maybes but still spots open so if anyone is thinking about it, please let me know by Wednesday.

    Kayen,

Thanks for organizing. I am in!
As MikeG noted above, this is indeed one of the highlights of the Chicago hoilday season. I didn't make it last year and I regretted it. I am going to take more detailed notes on the eight kinds of herring this year. I will also attempt a clear description of the lutefisk experience for those who have not yet taken the plunge.
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.

I'm in too, if there is room. I've been intending to do this event for several years, but never got around to it. I would love to participate.

Cool. Josephine and d4v3 are in and 3 of my friends are going so that fills out the reservations for 6 that I made.

If anyone else is interested, let me know ASAP, and I'll see if I can get another chair or two at our table.
