Grand Katachi -- fastest restaurant opening ever?

It seems like just yesterday that Marrakech Expresso was closing its doors, and now they've already slapped up a Sushi place in its place.

I have a carryout menu already, and, not being a big sushi lover I looked at the hot entrees--the prices seem exorbitant for lunch.

I know there are a few Ravenswood people on the list--anyone been yet? Unless they implement some lunch specials I can't see them sticking around for too long in this location.

My husband and I ordered here last week for the first and last time. He ordered a variety of sushi; I ordered a teriyaki beef variation. Both were very average, not much taste at all. The only bright spot was the packaging with each item packaged in its own cute plastic container.

The price is far too much for the quality here. We paid something ridiculous like $40 for this meal.

Good setup inside with a sushi bar and several upstairs tables. The BYO is also a plus. It looks like this is either a second location or a total move....the menu references a location on N. Sheridan

As far as the food, it was pretty underwhelming. Sushi was sliced paper thin and the rolls were heavy on the rice and light on ingredients. Even the veggie roll was skimpy. This is what I'd expect from all you can eat, but not ordering by the menu.

It may take them a bit before they start buying better cuts or work out a better arrangement with their fish purveyor. Quality is somewhere between Supermarket Sushi and Tokyo Lunch Box.

I imagine with regular traffic and some more experience, they'll work through these issues....it is still the first week.

And that's why I hate ordering sushi to go.

Has no one checked this place out since 2007? A friend just mentioned it to me as having a $1.00 sushi and $3.00 maki happy hour. Which is vaguely unsettling, but also intriguing.
