Our boss wants to take the dept. out.
We've done Greektown at least twice before.
We have 1 vegetarian, and one fairly unadventurous eater.
Need to be a walk or short cab from 500 W. Monroe.
Should be nice, but not Chicago steakhouse $$$$.
Quiet enough to talk, though not serious business talk, just conversation.
    Ideas?

Is Marche close enough? A variety of salads for the vegetarian and steak frites for the unadventurous?

Blackbird. It's just a few blocks walk (619 W. Randolph), open for lunch, has stuff for the vegetarian. Their lunch menu is surprisingly affordable. And oh yeah, the food is spectacular.

    Alhambra Palace? (Just kidding.)

Probably more than a cab ride than you're willing to spring for, but May Street Market has garnered a following for its lively, excellent lunch.

Not a short walk, but a short cab ride.

We treated a group of 25 persons from the office to lunch at Dine - in the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Monroe/Madison and Halsted St. - and everyone was very impressed with the variety of food, the quality and we found the pricing to be fair (good). The restaurant's interior is very attractive. We took a portion of one of the dining rooms for ourselves, but there's a private room which will accommodate up to 35 . . . if that's something which interests you. We walked over from 500 W. Madison St. in less than 15-minutes, but the restaurant/hotel parking lot is convenient (for anyone who's driving).

Another choice could be Sepia (as recommended by Amata) - an easy walk from your office.

Though Llyod's tends to need reservations a bit out in advance. Decent food at decent prices for the area and clientle, not too loud, and just nice enough that people feel they're going out somewhere.

Blackbird (suggested above) might be good as well, though maybe a little further along the $$$ scale. For the money, I might see about the menu at Nine (or however you spell it) or see if Powerhouse is open for lunch.

Thai Urban Kitchen (in the Citibank building) might be worth looking at as well.

Well, we ended up at Greek Islands for various reasons. Obviously not as interesting as many of the suggestions made, but good for the group in question.
And, they did a nice job. Service for a typically boisterous large office group kept everything hummimg. Menu dropping. order taking, dish arrivals, and intermittent busing all proceeded expertly and unobtrusively. Bread baskets had fresh bread.
Ordered several of the cold mixed appetizer platters and they were generous and tasty. Calamari and octopus were tender and good. All the various dips were represented. Only the eggplant (whatever the greek version of babaganouj is) seemed a bit bland. Fried calamari are large pieces, lightly breaded and good. Greek salad was served family style and was inoffensive.
Everyone but me was very happy with main dishes (several of which were the day's special lamb chops). I decided to try the greek sausage flavored with some orange rind. Two very large sausages came, all alone, on a plate. A small side of mixed veggies was on the side. The sausage did indeed taste a bit of orange, but much more of salt and a mild gaminess that didn't really do anything for me. It just didn't have much interesting meat flavor and cloyed very quickly. However everything else was good enough to make up for it.
Dessert of nougatina was acceptable but not exceptional.
