Haven't had time to try one and the other only got to try cold leftovers but both are promising I think...

In the same strip mall as Noli's on Kedzie there is a new Middle Eastern place called Sahar Pita (finally open). Appears to be similar to Salam menu-wise, although I haven't seen a menu so there might be some unique things. Worth checking out based on the cold leftovers I had last night.

On Lawrence and Troy there is a place with the word pupuseria in it. I know nothing more except that it's in the space formely occupied by a fairly average burger/gyro place so I'm guessing it's an upgrade.

Unfortunately it'll be about a week before I can try either place but I figured it was info worth passing on.

I don't know about the pupuseria, but here's a little more on the Sahar family of enterprises:

It's Rockwell just south of Lawrence in a storefront once occupied by a Guatemalan place.

Guatemalan place is still there. Tagine is going into the pair of storefronts just south of it (same building) where there was a short-lived Eastern European restaurant, perhaps Bulgarian, that was anything but inviting for someone not of their ethnic group.

East side of Rockwell at the southern end of building on the corner of Lawrence and Rockwell. These storefronts held Markellos bakery for some years prior to their move westward on Lawrence.

    Mike and others,

thanks for filling in my hasty typing. So all you folks from the neighborhood - anyone ever picked up a banh mi from the pool hall on that block of lawrence - know their provenance or if they're any good?

Even though Tagine is in Lincoln Square, I am bumping up this thread since the original mention was in this thread. There is a real sign on the front now including their web site. Only the home page and menus section have anything behind them yet. Home page indicates Grand Opening February 21, 2006.
