Very cool concept mentioned in today's Stew:
Expert help for Chinese restaurant patrons
Feel like you've been KO'd by kung pao chicken once too often? Weirded out by the idea of ordering a whole barbecued duck? Unable to move past moo goo gai pan and shrimp fried rice? If so, the Chicago Chinese Cultural Institute is coming to your rescue.
The organization has created "The Chopsticks Club," a dining group that will meet once a month at various Chinese restaurants around Chicago. The group invites the confused to join them and promises to order the most authentic Chinese food for attendees.
A dinner will take place Jan. 11 at Mandarin Kitchen, 2143 S. Archer Ave., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme? "Chinese Hot Pot Special." The cost is $25 per person, $20 for institute members (there's a downloadable registration form on the Web site). For more information, call 312-842-1988 or an send e-mail to info@chicagocci.com.
