Anyone know local shops that carry kurobuta pork?

    Thanks!

Supposedly the Japanese use "kurobuta" only to refer to the Berkshire breed, but other heritage breeds, such as Duroc, can be just as good.

For more reasonably priced kurobuta, look for "black pork" at Korean stores. I can't recall whether H-Mart carries it, but I know I've seen it at Seoul Market.

You can also ask at American butchers for Berkshire pork or heritage pork.

H-Mart indeed carries it in their meat section... on ocassion...

Incidentally, they also have black goat and black chicken if that's your schtick.

Like LAZ said, search for Berkshire pork. It's the best pork I've ever had.

I've heard that Mitsuwa Marketplace carries it but I've never purchased it there, so I cannot confirm that 100%.

Zier's in Wilmette can get it, but it's a special order there.

If you're ever up by Madison, WI, check out Willow Creek Farm. Best pork I've had... ever. I moved up here from Virginia where I had friends that raised Tamworth hogs and they were really tasty, but the Berkshire pork from Willow Creek takes the cake. Extremely reasonable prices - stop up your chest freezer.

(the double-cut, bone-in chops are stellar)

FWIW, this is the pork that Lombardino's and L'etoile in Madison use (both great restaurants) as well as Trattoria Stefano in Sheboygan (fantastic restaurant)
