My department had a lunch at Ditka’s in Oakbrook on Friday the 14th. There were four of us.
Only two of us wanted an appetizer. I had a half dozen oysters and another had a shrimp cocktail. He said it was fine with nice big shrimp. I thought the oysters were ok, but 5 were decent size and 1 was the size of a quarter. I would have complained, but since this is not on the lunch menu, I felt guilty. I had called that morning and had requested them. They were nice to accommodate me.
What was impressive about the oysters was the sorbet. It was made from ‘Mike’s’ Bloody Mary mix. I thought it was very good.
Our entrees were 2 orders of pork chop, sweet potatoes, cherry jus and 2 orders of cashew crusted tilapia with rice. I was told the fish was excellent. I and an associate had the pork chops. We both thought the sweet potatoes were very good and the sauce was excellent. We were both slightly disappointed in the chops. They were tougher than what we expected. They were a good size. Our waiter said that the restaurant smokes them on premise, but neither of us could detect a hint of this in the taste.
We had 4 desserts. I had a cherry cobbler with ice cream and a co-worker had the same. The other two had a crème boulee and a key lime pie with key lime ice cream.
The cobblers were served warm and were excellent. I was told the key lime pie was very good also. The person who had the crème boulee thought that the caramelized topping was too thick for their taste.
Oh, the place was very crowded. But the service never faltered and was excellent. We all thought the food was served at the proper temperature. I would recommend those in the area give this place a try for a special occasion.
