My family has had a tradition to have some Swedish items for our Christmas dinner and with Wikstrom's still closed we will be looking for an alternative place to purchase some of these items.

Some Swedish potato sausage, limpa bread, herring and perhaps some kroppkakor.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

You can get the limpa bread at the Swedish Bakery. Why not call Tre Kronor and ask their advice on the rest of the items?
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.

Erikson's on Clark Street is still open, it's right across the street from the old Wikstrom location. They have homemade potato sausage, meatballs, frozen lingon berries and lutefisk etc. Just allow ample time, they have been busier than usual (with the holidays and Wikstrom's being closed) and the owner has a crew of temporary workers who are sort of learning on the fly. I do not think they have limpa bread, you should duck into Svea a few doors down and ask them where they get theirs.

btw, the ladies at the Swedish Museum tell me the reason Ingvar and his daughter have not reopened Wikstrom's is they are facing plumbing issues in the space they moved into and that's causing huge permit headaches and so now they have to decide if they update the plumbing in that location or try and find a different one all together . . .

    good luck (and God Jul!)

Don't forget the Bond-ost cheese! With caraway seeds.

    How come Wickstrom's closed?

Don't rightfully know but I bet the old man wanted to retire and maybe the kids are slackers :) . According to the website that are supposed to open again in 2008, and I read somewhere, a few doors to the south.

Actually, my sisters and mom tried it several years ago and it just wasn't the same as my great aunt used to make.

I will have to give it a try with my new son-in-law who does have professional experiance in the kitchen.

    Mmmm... I think I can, I think I can. :)
