6 of us had a very nice lunch at Marie's and having never been there before, for a moment, I thought I'd walked onto the set of the old Matt Helm tv series. To call the place a retro palace wouldn't be exactly accurate since even though it immediately evokes an era-gone-by, Marie's is a clear and obvious original. I wish I'd taken more shots of the gloriously appointed interior but I know I'll be back soon and I'll be sure to do it next time.
Of course, the look and feel of the place would amount to nothing more than novelty, were it not for the outstanding pizza, which is ultra-thin, crispy, pungent and delicious. Even after just one visit, I feel pretty safe putting this pizza in my top category of Chicago thin-crust. And considering the place has been open since 1940, I'm probably not alone in that sentiment.
We ordered 3 mediums and finished every piece. I think we could have easily done the same with 3 larges. And, the only complaint I heard was that the pizzas were cut into squares, rather than wedges . . .
