That actually looks way better than I expected.

This mostly speaks to my expectations.

Yes, please scroll all the way up and read all the way down for maximum enjoyment.

It is also kind of fun to see what LTH could look like with unrestricted use of emoticons and avatars. I think I like it better the way it is, though it is amusing in the short run.

I'm surprised the ingredients don't look that sci-fi at all. I would choose canned over McDonald's...

    Compare:
    McDonald's cheeseburger:
Beef Patty 100% pure USDA inspected beef; no additives, no fillers, no extenders. Regular Bun Enriched bleached flour (bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, reduced iron), water, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, yeast, contains less than 2 % of each of the following: salt, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, wheat gluten, soy flour, baking soda, emulsifier (mono- and diglycerides, diacetyl tartaric acid esters of fatty acids, ethanol, sorbitol, polysorbate 20, potassium propionate), sodium stearoyl lactylate, dough conditioner (corn starch, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, calcium peroxide, ascorbic acid, azodicarbonamide, enzymes), calcium propionate (preservative). Contains wheat and soybean ingredients. Pasteurized Process American Cheese Milk, milkfat, water, cream, sodium citrate, salt, sodium phosphate, sorbic acid (preservative), artificial color, cheese culture, acetic acid, soy lecithin, enzymes, with starch added for slice separation. Contains milk and soybean ingredients. Ketchup Tomato concentrate from red ripe tomatoes, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, salt, natural flavors (vegetable source). Mustard Vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spice extractives. Pickle Slices Cucumbers, water, vinegar, salt, calcium chloride, alum, natural flavorings (vegetable source), polysorbate 80, turmeric (color). Onions (Dehydrated) 100% onions. Grill Seasoning Salt, pepper, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed and soybean).

Completely off topic but the guy who did the English translation for that can deserves a raise. Very well done, usually the translations are ...I guess obscure is the charitable way of putting it.

Jolly Rapist? A little creepy, at best.

Other than that, thanks for linking to the site, Ramon. I really liked the step-by-step documentation of tasting.

I can't imagine that most Americans would be able to figure out how to re-heat this based upon the directions. . . they wouldn't know how to pronounce "bain-marie" ("bayne" (like rain) "mair-rhee"), let alone know how to do it.

Well, I think a LOLCAT response is called for here:

    DO NOT WANT!

Really, it looks better than a lot of other canned items I've dealt with, from gefilte fish (yes, that's a sacreligious statement) to canned tamales, for instance, but... the concept is just nasty.

I can think of many, many more portable meals I'd pack away first: Dinty Moore Beef Stew, Chili, canned chicken and tuna, asept-packed Indian entrees... all of which are still less camping-portable than the dehydrated stuff.

No way. That stuff is nasty. You can't open a can of that around me and I have to leave the room. I think I suffer from some type of post-traumatic stress disorder from my childhood. My brother was freakishly fussy and had weird eating habits (grilled ribeyes bad, but cube steak mixed in with a can with canned cream of chicken soup, good) and my mother used him as the baseline so whatever he ate, I had to as well. Too many of those canned chicken "salad" sandwiches showed up in my lunch in school. (NB: To this day, he still buys that sh*t from Trader Joe's and eats it out of the can.)

    Give me the canned hamburger.

Ha. Why would you use a bain-marie unless you needed to heat like a hundred cheeseburgers at once? I can has can cheezburger?

Actually, that might be kinda good.

And I relly must say that this propably is faaaar better when you're many kilometers away from civilization on top of some mountain and you can whip out a cheeseburger with nearly the same quality as a McDonald's cheeseburger while your friend eats dry bread or power bars.
