About ten or twelve years ago Texas Magazine did a feature article on "The Ten Best BBQ Places in Texas."

THREE of the ten were in Lockhart, a little country town about 15 miles east of San Marcos. In our RV-ing days, we spent a month or so in San Marcos, visiting Austin and San Antonio, but we spent a LOT of time in Lockhart, soaking up the BBQ.

Irony as I see it is that all mail order Q is made in a separate building housing High Tech indoor smokers, not the old outdoor pits that make their Q so good.

    Marshall,

Cooper's in Llano is my Barbecue benchmark, the absolute best barbecue I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Coopers in Llano is where god goes when she's in the mood for Texas style Brisket.

That said it saddens me to see yet another chink in the armor of Traditional Barbecue, Cooper's in Llano using mechanical barbecue cookers, for any reason, seems inconcevible.
