Time for the north side/north/nwest burbers to meet again?

I don't know anything about how to organize an event (but maybe eventually Sweet Willie will teach me how to pull one off). Speaking purely selfishly, as I sometimes do, I have just dug myself out from under a huge pile of work and another huge pile of snow, and have started wondering when the north/northwest suburuban/north side LTHers will be getting together again. Unless I'm mistaken, nothing coming up in February is aimed at our group (most recently together at La Casa de Isaac, Flamingo's, and a great hot spicy Chinese place I forget the name of).

We had a list, I think, of places we wanted to try. Does anyone else this side of downtown want to try to set up a face-to-face in February?

Well, I do know tips and guidelines have been put together, I guess I should have said I've never tried to do it.

I'm disappointed, though, not to see any responses of interest in another get-together. If I'd gotten any feedback that anyone was interested, I guess my next step would have been to propose a place and a date, and look into the guidelines for how to get it organized.

The other thread on NW get togethers was chock full of ideas. Go ahead decide on a restaurant, set a date and time, then see what happens

Alls I'm saying is, 126 people looked at that post without replying, so it's hard to feel persuaded that if I "just did it," anyone else but me would show up.

That is the risk everyone here takes when they set up an event. I consider it a success if I have simply one person to dine with.

I would be interested in attending if the date and time work out for me, as I always like to enjoy food with LTHers. Thanks for volunteering to set something up, and I'll keep my eyes peeled to see if something specific emerges. As a side note, I've posted 2 events of my own with specific dates and times, and had no takers - so don't take it personally if your event meets the same fate.

Well, I guess it's time I took the plunge and learned how to set up a get-together. Thanks for the posted replies and private messages that let me know I was not entirely crazy to think it was time to come (if only temporarily) out of hibernation. Now, for a plan. I'll be back.

I'd come! Especially if it's cheap and not too crazy early in the morning. I'm excited. What were you thinking about exactly?

FYI - there's a dining group in the NW burbs that has 6-8 dinners each month ranging from burgers & beer to fine dining. Check them out if you're interested.

No response to a hypothetical post is not that unusual. When I started planning the French dinner, I had almost no responses until I finally said "How about this time and date," and then people responded. Of course, if no one responded after I set the date and a price, then I'd just cancel. But most people want to know where you're going and when.

The N/NW group has already had extensive "conversations" about where we might go, so there's not much else to say on that side of the conversation. The fact that 126 people looked at the post suggests quite active interest still exists. Post something along the lines of "Pick one of these two places" or even "I want to go here, come and join me," along with "what date works for you?" and you'd be much more likely to get a response.

If you want to get together, you got to make it real simple:

Name of restaurant
Date
Time
What you want to do (special menu, order off the menu and share)
An approximate cost helps as some of us are on budgets



Do realize that no matter date or time, someone else will propose another day of the week as better for them. ***BUT*** the person who is contacting the restaurant and doing all the leg work gets to choose the time.

If you start changing the date around, that causes problems with the folks that have signed up already.

Sometimes you get 30 people, sometimes 5-6 people. Surprisingly, I have had more fun with the smaller groups.
