We had some good eats in San Francisco . . . Here is the summary:
Front Porch
This was a nice child/baby friendly spot. I would describe the food as updated American comfort food - along the same lines of Blue Plate, Emmy's Spaghetti Shack and Blue Bird. It was Valentine's Day and they were offering a very reasonably priced prix fix - $32. This included a glass of champagne, appetizer, entree and dessert.
Some of the more memorable dishes included - melt in your mouth short ribs, grilled endive salad with bacon, crab with creamy polenta and red velvet cake.
Tartine Bakery
My only complaint about this place is that the line has gotten even longer. There is nothing better than their ham and cheese croissant hot out of the oven. Also had apple bread pudding, savory bread pudding and frangipane croissant. We were so stuffed that we couldn't eat for the rest of the day!
Pizetta 211
This is one of my favorite places despite the fact that the wait can be very long. There are only four tables inside and a couple of tables outside. I had the yam, brown butter and sage pizza and my husband had a pizza topped with two eggs infused with truffles. The pizzas are thin and slightly chewy and always fairly simple. The big surprise here are the desserts. The chocolate souffle cake with lightly sweetened whipped cream cannot be missed and a blood orange tart was light and refreshing.
The Ferry Building
Hot chocolate as thick as ganache from Boulettes Larder
French Macarons from Miette - chewy & moist made without any artificial coloring. I loved the rose-geranium
Fish tacos & carnitas from Mijita. This was the perfect snack. Perfectly fried rock cod on top of shredded cabbage with a little salsa - YUM! I didn't even get a taste of the carnitas because my husband scarfed it down so fast. It must have been good.
Bar Tartine
I'm so glad that we decided to go here again. They have an amazing new chef who is very talented. They made a plate of plain gnocchi for the baby and I had the adult version with kale and hen of the woods mushrooms. It was pure heaven. We also had a radicchio and prosciutto salad and an interesting cilantro soup. Desert was a meyer lemon parfait and an affogato.
I have pictures that I will post.
