I enjoy reading food blogs, especially those that review dining experiences from restaurants all across the country and around the world. For some reason I don't always get the same enjoyment reading about a critic's review of a restaurant though. I don't know why...anywho, I was just wondering if anyone had any favorite blogs, not necessarily only about dining reviews, that they might want to share? Thanks!

There's an old topic here with a lot of links. An update would be useful so feel free to add your favorites and tell us which ones no longer work.

    http://www.wiviott.com

I don't think either of those are on the other thread...

If you want to search for food blogs you are not aware of I would recommend http://www.tastespotting.com People add food images and they mostly link to food blogs. (I am doing a terrible job of describing it, but I can't think of another way) [/url]

I first saw this blog after reading a NYT article about gelatin-filtered stocks...

    http://www.ideasinfood.typepad.com/

From two NYC chefs, Aki Kamozawa and H. Alexander Talbot comes an incredibly deep resource and in-depth view into their creative processes.

The blog has recipes, lavish pictures and enough great ideas to keep you busy for months. The pdf'd notebooks are an incredible resource and should, in a just world, have been picked up by some publishing house long ago....

It's also where I learned that an Alinea cookbook is available for pre-order [delivery Fall 2008] from:

    http://www.alinea-book.com

Pre-pay for your book and you get access to a website with demonstration videos, extra recipes, supplementary photos and a whole lot more.

Another tremendously useful site is one that I think has been mentioned here on LTH before, Harold McGee's:

    http://news.curiouscook.com/

Bringing things full circle, one McGee's latest posts has David Kinch's recipe for "Roasted Dates with Spiced Pumpkin Consomme".

    Enjoy!

Check out Appetite for China for some great posts about food in China, with recipes and lots of mouth-watering photos. I love their tagline: "1.3 billion people must be eating something right." Makes me want to organize a China-thon!

I feel the same way. I have seen most of these, but don't read anything regularly (except LTH) or I wouldn't get anything done.

I do check out another one occasionally that's not on the list (mostly for the photographs - she's a food stylist).

Well, I'm a new LTH member, but, in looking for food blogs mentioned in the forum, I found you all. Might I give a quick plug to my own little blog? FoodLovesWriting.com is a literary food blog of adapted recipes, restaurant reviews & original food stories. It's only a few months old, but I update usually three times a week. I'd love to get some feedback!

Here are some others I love:

I'm a regular at Michael Laiskonis' blog. He's the pastry chef at Le Bernardin. When I see the passion and dedication he has to his craft, I'm glad I left the industry. I love food, but I don't have what this guy has. He's an awfully thoughtful writer too. In fact, one of my favorite passages of his is all about writing on his blog:

Just like chocolate work, or dicing a brunoise, or even expediting the pass, you're only good at writing if you practice it on a regular basis. I think the writing here has gotten better with each post; for sure, the process feels less daunting and takes far less time than it used to. Carrying around a few small notebooks has helped- I find myself writing all the time, in all kinds of situations. If I have a spare moment, I'm probably scribbling something or other (This very paragraph is being written in between orders during a busy December dinner service). Difficult as it is at times, it has become part of my daily routine; whether or not what comes out is worthy of a Pulitzer, at least it keeps my thoughts organized. I've probably written more in the last year alone than in all my years since high school. I like it.

My absolute favorite, for a variety of reasons, is by David Lebovitz, cookbook author/American expatriate/ former Chez Panisse pastry chef. His ongoing comic struggle with all things French is consistently entertaining; his epic saga of buying his new Parisian apartment and doing a gut renovation (!), both hilarious and hair-raising. If you like his books, this blog is a must.

This thread is fairly old in a very changing world. Any food blogs or recipe sites that you are liking today??

    For me:

    She Simmers: http://shesimmers.com/

Unfortunately, my food blog of choice, Serious eats: http://seriouseats.com/ has seriously gone downhill.

My family also agrees Serious Eats has suddenly dropped in quality, right around when they got purchased.

Not really a fan of shesimmers, to me it's a very shallow look at Thai food. Her Massaman recipe, for instance, uses a jar of curry paste, which is a perfectly legitimate meal but not worth posting a "recipe" for. I will say here grandma's burmese chicken stew is like 90% as good as a real geng haeng lae at a fraction of the effort.

    Here are some I enjoy:

http://thewoksoflife.com/ - Great all around Chinese.

http://themalaproject.com/ - Lean site now, but still amazing Sichuan food.

    http://www.chinasichuanfood.com/ - more Sichuan

    http://en.christinesrecipes.com/ - Asian baked Goods

    http://www.vietworldkitchen.com/ - Vietnamese and Chinese

http://www.theravenouscouple.com/ - mostly Vietnamese with other trendy foods

    http://migrationology.com/ - mostly food-related travel

    http://www.topwithcinnamon.com/ - Great for sweets.
