Does anyone know if the gelato at whole foods (at the gelato bar) is made by them or if it is provided by a local gelato maker? And if so, who makes it?

    thanks!

It is made by them. My thoughts are that it is ok, but nothing special. I've been a little disappointed with the number of ice crystals.

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering how authentic their gelato was compared to other (like Italian) places. I saw they have mint chocolate chip gelato (my favorite ice cream flavor) which i don't think is a traditional gelato flavor, so I thought maybe it's not very authentically made after all.

When the Boystown WF opened, I asked about their gelato. It is made traditionally with more egg yolks, more milk and less cream than ice cream though they do tend to focus on more popular American ice cream flavors.

I'm a fig freak. During the summer, they had a fig gelato with an orange base that was just fantastic. At Christmas, a peppermint that rivaled any peppermint ice cream I have ever eaten.

I do agree with BR that the gelato tends to be icy there from time to time.
