LTH members perform -- without cooking

LTH members Seth Zurer and wife Karensa will be performing Stravinsky's Histoire du Soldat along with an ensemble of musicians including mushroomer Leon Shernoff:

Including: Frederick Rzewski's De Profundis for speaking pianist, on Oscar Wilde's text written in prison -- performed by rising star Thomas Rosenkranz from the University of Hawaii…

…and Stravinsky's L'histoire du Soldat, with Kerensa Peterson as the Narrator, Seth Zurer as the soldier, and Chicago literary celebrity Sara Paretsky (of VI Warshawski fame) playing the role of the devil.

There will be two performances:

1. Feb. 15, 8PM at the Hyde Park Union Church (corner of Woodlawn and 56th)
2. Feb. 16, 8PM at Alice Millar Chapel, on the Northwestern University Campus (corner of Sheridan and Chicago).

Tickets are $10, up to two days prior to the performance night, $12 at the door.

Fiddlesticks! My guess is that Seth and Kerensa will most definitely be cookin'. (Dare I say, smokin'?) They just won't be in the kitchen. Having seen them perform before, I have no doubt! Indeed, my experience is that most LTHers are, in fact, always cooking (and sometimes they're even doing so in the kitchen)

Leon himself is on the board as mycoman, and I've performed with Seth and Leon in earlier U of C days. Can't wait to see this!

Thanks for posting! This should be a fun event - the music is really great (at least for the stravinsky half - I haven't heard the other performer.

If anybody is interested in a snack after the show either night, we'd love to see people. Late night hyde park options? Evanston? I'm open to suggestions!

You are too modest! Many of us on the board would like you to post your appearances. If you don't want to post it yourself, send us a pm and we will be glad to post it for you.
We would be delighted to go out for a snack after the Evanston performance, either in Evanston or Rogers Park (Evanston closes down early, een on Saturday nights).

I'm tentatively interested in the Evanston performance, including some kind of after-stop. Prairie Moon would be open for beer; I'm not sure how late they run the kitchen, although I think they were still cooking when I went with some folks after a movie at the Block a few weeks ago. Celtic Knot is even closer to campus, and I bet a few folks around here know their kitchen hours.

I was surprised to see Clark Street almost totally dark just after midnight a couple of Fridays ago, although we did find one taqueria open (La Choza, I think-- the one that opened in the location of the late, lamented El Llano). I know it won't be quite as late after this show. Of course there are the bars with kitchens (Candlelite, Morseland, Heartland) and the African places may well be open latish.

I'd be there in a minute, but I'll be working out of town. I'd love to see you perform. Also, being a huge Wilde fan, De Profundus is one of the best examples of his unparalleled sarcasm and cynicism. I'd love to see it set to music. Should be a great nite. Break a leg.

This is Leon, posting about the concert that I invited a bunch of you to this weekend. The first performance, last night in Hyde Park, went wonderfully. It was a real treat not to have been so heavily involved this time (this was our third concert) and be able to just enjoy it like a regular concert.

Everyone did a wonderful job (the ones you know out of that "everyone" are Seth and Kerensa). You should all come to the performance tonight at the Alice Millar Chapel on the Northwestern campus, at 8pm. [Does this count as a shill?] See www.tinymahler.com for the details. $12 admission.

I will not be able to attend, as I'm going to look after my neighbor's kids tonight. Break a leg, performers, and buen provecho one-and-all.

The Saturday concert was also excellent and was attended by the Delaunays and two other LTHers whose real names I know but not their handles (don't now if it would break etiquette to mention real names without handles)/ After breaking down the set, I and my fellow organizers repaired to the Celtic Knot, where we spotted the Delaunays with Seth and Kerensa.

I'll post an invite earlier for our next concert, along with some places to eat...

We are not seeking suggestions of where to eat after a concert. Any event on this board has to be food related. If you organize a dinner before or after a concert, then it may be a suitable event for our community. This is a food-centric forum, not a general arts and concerts list nor is it the social pages.
