I need your help and it has nothing to do with things like "where to find filet of alpaca" or "where do I go for the best chicken tenders", it has nothing to do with food. I need to know what type of digital camera I should buy to start hauling around with me on my roadfood adventures. With spring and summer around the corner I need to know what type of small digital camera I can get for a good price and where to go. Ive never owned a digital camera and I want one to specifically leave in my car to have when I go on random food journeys. Nothing special just something that will get the job done and produce the same wonderful photo's that I see all over LTH.

I consider LTH the Playboy of food forum's. It provides foodies with stimulating articles, endless information, and eye-popping well shot photograph's that I just keep looking at, even though Ive seen the same photo's hundreds of times. Thanks for help.

One update, Beef, on the Fuji Finepix line since that other thread was last updated.

They went on to make the F30 (and F31) which was, remarkably, a great improvement over the F10. HOWEVER... the more recent cameras in the Finepix line are actually WORSE for low light photography. Because they were pushing image quality instead of megapixels with the F10 and F30, they got stellar reviews, but the sales didn't follow. People who didn't know any better saying "why should I buy a six megapixel camera when I can get a ten megapixel camera for the same price," I'm sure. So with the Finepix cameras after the F31, they went to a new CCD that has basically blown the incredible low-light quality of the line.

As a result, the discontinued F30s and F31s are now selling on eBay for $400 or more. I got lucky and found a Fuji employee who got an F30 as a bonus and sold it to me for $200 a few weeks ago (I even told her some were selling for $400!)... there are deals to be found. But just so you're aware, the awesomeness of the F10 and F30 does NOT apply to the newer Finepix cameras.

Ditto Dmnkly. The Fuji F30 is perhaps the best high-ISO low-light compact camera I've ever fooled around with. In my opinion, there really is no point to having a compact digital larger than 6MP with the current level of sensor technology. In general, with cameras utilizing the same level of technology, the more pixels you try to cram onto a sensor, the worse the low-light sensitivity and image quality.

The megapixel counts are a lot of marketing fluff. More megapixels != better image quality. For my professional gear, I will pay some attention to megapixel counts, but choosing between a 12MP and a 10 or even 8MP camera, the actual resolution would not be a primary deciding factor.
