Tree syrups (not maple)

Has anyone ever tried hickory or poplar syrup?

There's a farm (http://hickoryworks.homestead.com/) in Indiana that produces both. I was thinking of ordering some to try it out. Any recommendations on which to try?

Birch syrup is much tougher to make than maple syrup - maple has a 40:1 ratio of sap to finished syrup, birch is more like 100:1.

I don't know much about hickory syrup, except I'd assume it's pretty similar to pecan syrup.

I tried hickory syrup at a camping event in my youth, although "syrup" is a bit of a misnomer: they are made from a sweetened bark "tea" that's been reduced to syrup consistency. IIRC, the hickory tasted very similar to maple (but I was a wee lass back then...so who knows)
