The Secret of My Perfect Health

People always ask me, “Dave, how is it that even in your advanced years, you’re in such perfect health.”

After blushing modestly, I usually attribute my continuing good health to one man: the Juiceman.

I’ve had a few colds this winter, but none have lasted more than a day or so and all were treated with one of several juice drinks that I make for myself, including a vitamin C blast of grapefruit/orange and a vitamin A assault of carrot juice and ginger.

The Juiceman handles all fruit and veg, and it s an excellent way to use fruit that’s a touch past its prime or not super high-quality (mealy apples, peaches, or browning grapes).

The Juiceman juicer is very easy to use and clean (dishwasher safe) and comes in around $100 or less. It’s the secret of my perfect health, in case you were wondering.

Contrasting your healthy handsome good looks with an almost superhuman appetite for debauchery I simply figured there was a painting ageing in your attic.

Looks to be a Juiceman on my horizon.

I'm not sure how you define "bitch," but it takes me less than one minute to rinse and place parts in the dishwasher.

Here's a trick I use. I take one of the little bags one gets from most grocery stores and put it over the exhaust on the unit; the handles strap easily around the front nozzle, which holds the bag in place. The bag functions kind of like the paper bags on vacuum cleaners -- it collects all debris and can then be easily deposited in the garbage. In this way, there is no splatter and no debris container to clean. If this isn't clear, I can shoot some pix and post.

Total time to cut fruit that will result in 12 oz of fresh fruit juice is about 3 minutes, so total time to make a big glass of morning juice, and clean up, is less than 5 minutes. That, to me, is a bitchin' good use of time, leaving much time for almost limitless debauchery.

You'll get more hair in all kinds of places.

Incidentally, this god of juice is not without his critics:

Ahh...see, I'm one of those freaks who does the dishes by hand. I only use the dishwasher if I've just thrown a dinner party, etc. and can't bear the sight of all those extra plates. Actually, I'm suffering more from lack of Juiceman Juicer use guilt; I've got the past-it's-prime produce, I got the desire to juice it, but I haven't got the will.

...will take your advice under consideration...

I *do* enjoy the finished product. Homemade juice is awesome.

Ahhhh, browning grapes. I absolutely love fresh, local grapes when they're available in the summer, but the shelf life on those suckers is barely the time it takes to get them home in the car. Within hours, it seems, they start to brown and then, within a day or two, they're like bad wine. Last summer I discovered an awesome use for local grapes: juice 'em immediately, cook 'em up with some riesling and sugar, then toss 'em in the ice cream machine for the best sorbet you'll ever taste. I may have to buy this gadget just to facilitate the process. Is it summer yet?????

    Hi,

While I favor people eating their vegetables in any form is acceptable to them. I will suggest you have simply been very fortunate in the cold department. I have also been impressed with the brevity of my colds recently. The last string has been no more than 24-hours in duration with intense runny nose one day and perfectly fine the next day. Yesterday I sneezed 9 times in a four-hour period with a bit of a sniffles. Today I am the picture of good health.

While I am pleased you are enjoying your vegetable juice. I think the strain of colds running around simply has had a brief active period and poof! I will admit to only really liking V-8 and even that is not regularly consumed.

    Regards,

I certainly would love to have a juicer like that. I would have to find room in my small kitchen though to store it or would have to store in on the counter. But if you want fresh citrus juice, don' t think that you need a fancy juicer. Today, I made a nice glass of fresh juice from my Cushman Honey bells that was delicious. I used a regular cheap plastic juicer that probably cost a dollar somewhere. I used three honey bells and got a nice glass of delicious juice. Took seconds to clean rinsing in water. So don't let the lack of a fancy juicer stop you from enjoying fresh citrus juice. Of course you won't be able to make all the fancy combinations that Dave can enjoy but still you can have some nice juice.
