Guests are always welcome.
Welcome back for the 2008 mushroom season. Our first meeting of the year will be with Kevin Boyce, telling us about “A Good Time to be a Fungus.” 200 million years before the dinosaurs and 20 million years before trees, the largest life on land stood 20 feet tall—a full 17 or 18 feet taller than anything else in the landscape. It appears to have been a fungus. How does one go about assigning an identity to such a fossil? What does it tell us about the earliest terrestrial ecosystems that predate our ancestors leaving the water for dry land?
Directions:
The North Park Village Nature Center is located just off the Edens Expressway (I-94). You will exit at Peterson and travel east to Pulaski.
