As has been noted before on several threads about cheap eats in Madison, the Babcock Hall Dairy Store is a must stop for visitors to Madison for their cheese and ice cream that is produced by the Department of Food Science.

Since I was "on the road" over Christmas, I sent Babcock Hall Cheese to all of our relatives as Christmas presents and the cheese was well received.

Now from the Meat Science Department of the University of Wisconsin:

Yeah I worked in the med school as an undergrad and it was a couple buildings over from the shop. So good.
They also sell the ice cream and other items at Memorial Union. The Babcock shop has very limited hours but the Union is open much later into the night.

Badger Bites: University of Wisconsin-Madison Cookbooks

Over the course of University history, numerous campus-related organizations have produced cookbooks. Containing more than just recipes, these cookbooks provide a look at how food has played a role in campus culture and identity. Whether designed for fundraising or for promotional purposes, they capture a snapshot view of campus organizations of yore and the cultural environment surrounding them.

You can view the collection at http://uwdc.library.wisc.edu/collections/UW/BadgerBites. The collection includes such titles as Bucky's favorite foods (1955), Friendship club cook book (1951), Elizabeth Waters cookbook (1955) and University of Wisconsin Dames Gourmet foods from near and far (1973).

A favorite of mine for many years as it is just across from the Engineering Campus.
    Great cottage cheese with pineapple!
