Geez, not only does Ruhlmann make him lunch, he puts him in this august grouping next to Bill Buford and in a rare category that is not a slam to the nominees as is The Douchbag: "For the best example of twisted, repressed, or compromised "I'd rather be making lemon bundt cake with My Cat, Mr. Mufflesworth" journalist who actually HATES food and hates the people who make food even more"

I've long been a big fan of MJN's podcasts, which along with Splendid Table is some of the best food talk on the internet air.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Well, as I said on Hungry, I have as much chance of winning as spotting Tony Bourdain throwing down jalapeno poppers at a TGI Friday's, but I'm proud all the same.

The Trib is doing another of its round-ups of on-line cooking fora and they mention LTH. The article is called Dot.com cooking:
Cooks reach across digital realm to find and share new dishes.

I think the Good Eating staff is trying to figure out how they can inject their weekly newspaper section with one one-hundreth of the energy and interest and value that LTH Shopping and Cooking forum generates.

I read Good Eating every week and I am continually disappointed at the vast gulf between what they do and the potential for what they COULD do! Then I come here to assuage my loss. :-) --Joy

Thanks, Gary! I have to say, it was quite the experience - not only having a chat with LAZ which I enjoyed immensely, but for what probably was far longer and farther afield than she intended :), but also to see Richard Chapman in action taking pics of me, my pantry, and the beans themselves from every possible angle, lighting arrangement, and depth made me want to hang up my little point-and-shoot.

Well deserved and excellent attention for all. The pantry project was inspirational all along (I have been working on it, and the sense of achievement I get not just from making something delectable from odds and ends, but also from emptying out more space in the pantry was surprising), and seeing Deta's and Mike G hit the pinnacle - very cool.

Bravo.

Thanks, Tom. Only today did I read the small print and see that the Check, Please! auditions that Crain's held at Brasserie Jo last month had the provision that "a selection of these segments will appear on ChicagoBusiness.com." So I have no idea now if this means I passed the test for the actual TV show, or if this is all the 15 minutes of fame I get!

Yeah, and then he's just a mean drunk. Just kidding, DCFS.

It's been a good PR week for Thor, Purple Asparagus and Monogramme!

Not only did we get this, but Women Chefs & Restaurateurs did a really nice profile of me in the national newsletter http://www.womenchefs.org/associations/ ... nter08.pdf (page 20) and Monogramme is the John Williams remote sponsor on WGN radio as a result of my involvement in the Flower and Garden Show.

Frequent LTH contributor Louisa Chu has a piece about Absinthe in today's Chicago Tribune:

The lifting of the U.S. ban, which dates to 1912, has opened a floodgate. Four brands of the anise-flavored liqueur with the sinister reputation are already on the market and nearly two dozen await approval -- including one called Mansinthe, commissioned by shock rocker Marilyn Manson.

Done in by the early 20th Century Prohibition tide and the belief that it caused hallucinations and madness, absinthe has been vindicated by modern science. It's showing up in Chicago-area retail shops and in bars, where it is served in creative cocktails and in the classic preparation, simply mixed with water and sugar.

Crazy for absinthe

Congrats Louisa, Melissa, Brent and Rob on an LTHForum.com media roadblock this week! :)
