best indian?

i am sure there is a thread out there on this already, so if someone can post the link that would be great. otherwise, where should we go for some great indian food tonight? i know there are a ton of places in the city and on devon but which one should we hit?

I just go to Devon (the stretch between Western and Sacramento), walk down the street, read menus posted outside the restaurants, and go to whichever one sounds good.

Tiffin had been my go-to place but my last visit there it seemed to have gone down a notch. My most recent lunch was at Mysore Woodlands and I was underwhelmed there, too. Right now Mount Everest in Evanston is pretty good. I'd be interested in hearing recent Devon Avenue recommendations from others.

My personal favorite is Hema's Kitchen - www.hemaskitchen.net
6406 N Oakley Ave. just off Devon. It is cheap and delicious. The service is sometimes a little slow, but I think it is excellent food. I am getting hungry just thinking about it. They also opened another shop on clark street a year or two ago, but it isn't as good as the original.

I had never had a bad meal at Mysore Woodlands, but I haven't been there very recently.
Have had exellent meals at Udupi Palace, and Uru Swati. (All are discussed in detail if you do a search.)

The last two times we went to Hema's Kitchen we were underwhelmed. The food seemed quite bland and overly oily. I'm sure we'll try it again sometime, but not before we try a few new places.

My fav, because its close to my house AND because the food has been consistently great is Luzzat, just off the Jarvis stop on the Red line on Jarvis in Rogers Park.

I've enjoyed Hema's in the past as well, but always try to go during the week or really early. Otherwise it's packed.

Tried Udupi Palace for the first time about a year ago and had a very positive experience. Can't for my life remember exactly what we ate, but I'm guessing there was some dosai and a paneer dish in there. If you're looking for meat this isn't the right place, though; it's southern Indian, vegetarian.

Had no idea until I googled it, but apparently they have a Takoma Park, MD location as well!

For a downtown more upscale Indian experience with a wine list, try India House.

Marigold has delicious Indian inspired food, a cool atmosphere, and a thoughtful wine list that matches the cuisine. Food and wine pairing should not be a problem.
