For those of you out there that like a
gueuze, a fantastic and rare example is on tap at the
Hopleaf right now -
Cantillon Saint Lamivus.
Here is the description from the Hopleaf's
draft menu:
Limited Availability. Collaboration between the brewery and the vintners of the Libourne region of France. Merlot & Cab.-Franc grapes are soaked in Bordeaux barrels containing 2- to 3-year old lambic. Cloudy ruby red, classic lambic funk in nose, grapes & fruit & floral in mouth. QUITE SOUR—Warning! Not for everyone! 6%
This beer is beautifully complex and, if you have never tried a gueuze, makes re-think everything you thought you knew about beer. It is not cheap at $9 a glass, but given that it is next to impossible to find this stuff on tap anywhere, let alone Chicago, it is worth it. I highly recommend giving it a try.
