Here it is folks, the message you’ve all been waiting for with an extra surprise to boot.

Burt is reopening on Wednesday, April 2, 2008!

The extra surprise is that I convinced him to do a semi-private gathering for LTH members on Tuesday, April 1st! A handful of LTHers PMed me, asking about this possibility and I thought it would be a good way for Burt to get back into the swing of things before we open to the public.

I wasn't sure if this should go in the Events Forum or here in Eating Out. If the mods want to move it, fine by me.

    Here are the details:

The store will be open from 5pm until 10pm.

Rather than doing “seatings”; dictating when you must come in, we will be open for you to come in whenever it is most convenient for you. However, so as to insure that we are not overwhelmed with any large groups all at once, and to insure that the most people can get in on this while waiting the least amount of time for a table, we are asking that you please post here with the number of people who will be attending and what time you would like to come in. Please do not walk in without posting here first.

If it becomes necessary, I will make slight adjustments to the schedule to make sure that we don’t overload the chef. After all this is a 70 year old guy who is just getting back from triple bypass surgery. Let’s not kill him the first night he reopens! As we get closer to the April 1st date, I will post a schedule so everyone can see when they're coming in.

You don’t need to place an order here on the thread, but you will be encouraged to call your order in ahead of time on the day of the get-together. You can start calling as early as 3pm on the 1st.

We will be sticking strictly to pizzas, salads, garlic bread, and the usual appetizers; no grill work or pastas will be available. Everything will be at regular menu prices. If you’re going for the full cycle (pizzas, appetizers, etc.) please let Burt know everything when you call, and allow for time to eat your apps before the pizza comes out. For example, if you want to eat pizza at 6:30, you should plan on being there at about 6:10.

That’s it. I hope I’m handling this correctly. If the mods feel there should be any changes or if anyone has any suggestions as to how to make this work more smoothly, I’m wide open.

See you all on April 1st,

    Buddy

P.S. I will be posting this same message over at Roadfood.com. While there will be some interested parties, I do not anticipate any serious conflict or competition for tables or oven space.

    B.

All my wife has been talking about lately is being able to get back to Burt's, so this news has really made her day!

It looks like several people are intending to get there early, so we'll plan on arriving a bit later, around 7:30. If you need us to push that back at all to accommodate demand, just let us know and we'll be happy to do so. It will just be the two of us.

    Great news!

    Hi,

I forgot, I have a program in Highland Park finishing around 8:30. I will be there for the late crowd between 8:30 and 9. I will call with my order as I depart. I will probably bring 1-3 friends ... I just have to alert them!

Saint Pizza and I and our boys would like to come. Early would be better for us but since we're making our interest known so late in the game we're prepared to be flexible. We've never tried Burt's but have been wanting to get there for some time! So that's 2 adults, 2 children and a baby for as early a time as possible without overloading Burt. Thanks!

Don't worry about a "late" entry. If anyone else is interested, don't be shy. I'll put together a schedule that will try to accomodate all.

So far, if my counting is right we've got 40+/- people spread out over the course of the evening. No problem. And as long as everyone is a little bit flexible on the time, except where otherwise noted, we can probably squeeze in a few more. As we get closer to the date I will post a rundown of who is coming in when.

Thanks again to all! BTW, Burt and Sharon are doing a bit of R&R with a roadtrip to visit the grandkids. He should be well rested and ready for action by the time April 1st rolls around.

I apologize for cancelling on the day of but my good friend was in a car accident last night with her husband. She is generally fine but banged up and has asked me to run errands and take care of some things for her while she rests up tonight. We will make it up by coming out twice in the next few weeks. Thank you for understanding.
