    LTHForum,

Surprisingly easy to pass for a white building with a red awning, Wallace's Catfish Corner offers catfish a multitude of ways, steaks, tails, nuggets, along with a soul food highlight reel and BBQ tips and links straight from an Aquarium style smoker.

Windows brighten a comfortable dining room and the friendly waitress helped a couple of Wallace's newcomers navigate the menu to maximize our side dish to dollar ratio.

Lunch started strong with meaty moist catfish steaks, crackling crisp corn meal crust bone-in with just a shade of delicious funk that separates catfish from it's pond chicken cousins.

Sides were tasty, if a bit bland, though we went with all starch as the greens, jerk chicken and daily special ox tails for that matter, were not ready as "the cook came in late that day."

BBQ tip link combo was not successful, I neglected to ask for sauce on the side and the meat was drowned in tart sweet commercial tasting barbecue sauce with all the subtlety of a blaring trumpet. From what we could tell the tips had potential, but the links were over done and dry.

Seeing as Wallace's is using an Aquarium smoker, with the scent of BBQ noticeable as we exited the car, we stopped in the BBQ/fast food side and picked up a small no sauce tips to dine altrunko.

Tips were ok, no noticeable smoke flavor, and a little scraggly, but spots of caramelized crisp bounced up overall flavor. Standard two slices of white bread and fries, not particularly good fries at that, accompanied.

If in the mood for catfish Wallace's is well worth a trip and as a bonus one could give a nod to the Chicago Bulls of old and do a Madison Ave Soul Food Three-Peat with Wallace's (2800), Edna's (3175) and MacArthur's (5412).

As a side note, former Chicago alderman Wallace Davis Jr has an interesting history, but now seems fully devoted to tabby aquatic.

    Enjoy,
    Gary
