That is a very broad question, what are some of the qualities you are looking for in a steakhouse.

Wondering if it's just another bland or overcooked suburban steak place or actually good - cooked as requested - good flavors like Ruth Chris?

I did some research on this place and it appears that the reviews are mixed.

The owners of the defunct "Chicago Prime" in Schaumburg purchased "Coerper's Five O'Clock Steakhouse" in Milwaukee and then they proceeded to open this location.

Entrees come with a "Wisconsiny" relish tray and also salad and potato. Steaks are priced in the mid-thirties and they are listed as "U.S. CHOICE or higher" ( Personal editorial--At this price point, I doubt you'll ever get "higher")

IMO, The prices are not substantially less than what you would pay at a first tier place such as Keefer's, Morton's, Gibson's or Pete Miller's.

I have been there. I won't say it's worth making special trip from the city, but it's certainly worth visiting if you're out that way.

One difference is that steaks at those places are a la carte; Five O'Clock includes salad, bread, potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, and, as mentioned, the relish tray.

The steaks are very good, high-end choice as advertised, nicely charred outside and served in a pool of zip sauce; I'd order a little rarer than you prefer, however. They do good lamb chops, and great shrimp scampi, too.

It's also a lovely room. There were some service issues early on; but it's been awhile and they may have worked the kinks out by now.

I was taking the a la carte factor into consideration. By splitting those side dishes with someone, you are only adding another 10-15 dollars per diner to the total bill. I don't consider that substantial, however, I do understand that it could be too much for someone else.

Still a tough comparison as I find Ruth's Chris slightly better then mediocre with butter drenched steaks and beef having an odd brightness that comes from accent/msg flavor enhancers. On the other hand, I quite enjoyed my most recent foray into the burbs at Tramonto's Steak and Seafood.

Looking forward to hearing about your visit to the Five O'Clock Steakhouse.

Went with the in-laws last weekend. Great throwback, old school atmosphere. Permanent Christmas in there. Very dark and red.

You're seated at the bar to start. Order a cocktail if you like, and then your server comes by to explain the menu to you, and take your order. You are then moved to your table afterwards, and your server comes by with a cart with a big bowl of salad, bread, dressings, etc. I tried their house peppercorn ranch, it was OK.

Their steaks are served Pittsburgh style "black and blue" so that the sear on the outside makes the steak look like it's burnt to a crisp, when actuality, it's been cooked to temperature (ish) on the inside. They said something about searing it at 1800-1900 degrees. They also refuse to cook any steak to well done.

We had the ribeye which was pretty good. Not the best steak I've had but respectable, although the meat itself could have been more flavorful.

I knew I recognized the name! I had been to Coerper's in Milwaukee a long time ago.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.
