Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice cheese plate near water tower?

The two places that come to mind are Cru and NoMi. Both are good places for a glass of wine and some cheese, with Cru being the more casual of the two.

    NoMi

Both Spiagga & Cafe Spiaggia (980 N Michigan) offer cheese plates - the Cafe is a nice option we've done several times as part of a light meal or late night dessert fix.

I also have the vague recollection of having done a cheese plate at Bistro 110 in the past.

It's more than a few blocks, but the cheese plate at Naha is outstanding, although it's a grand affair for $25 but worth it if you have someone to share one with.

Menu is here (just click on the cheese course link)

Also close to Naha is Bin 36, which has a great selection and beautifully displayed in the front window so you can press your face up against it like a kid in front of a candy store!

And Cru does it well, as well as Eno in the Hotel Intercontinental.

Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

I would second Bin 36. They have a very large selection and you would have a lot more flexibility than at Naha (which has a very fine cheese selection but with maybe 7 choices instead of 50).

You've all really nailed them, though there's that place connected to the intercontinental whose name escapes me at the moment. It is a wine, chocolate and cheese bar. Not bad for what they've got. I love spiaggia, though I wish they allowed you to choose your cheese. Also, I don't know if you can just get a cheese plate, but I know that Tru has an AMAZING selection of cheese.

The place in the Intercontinental is Eno, mentioned above.

I believe you can sit at the cheese bar at Bin 36. Kind of fun.

Tru has a awesome cheese cart. I had it served with dinner there but I am pretty sure you can have drinks at the bar and get cheese courses.

    Hii

On Saturday, April 12th I'll be spending a day at the Newberry -- a rare occasion to be in that area.

By coincidence, yesterday while visiting Pastoral, the aritisan cheese place on Broadway, I talked with a fellow who spoke highly of a restaurant on Walton east of Rush Street that serves excellent cheese. "Expensive, though" he added. He thought I might find a very good Stilton to enjoy with port.

But he couldn't remember the name. Any ideas?

Now, I may indeed be stopped by the "expensive" proviso. But I'd at least like to know the name of the place so that I can experience the temptation.

The only restaurant in that area that I can think of is Pane Caldo, the menu of which denotes having "assorted cheeses."

Not on Walton, but just a block away, Cru has some very nice cheese plates.

My GF and I have been to Eno (in the Intercontinental) a handful of times and always loved it. We don't know much about either wine or cheese, except that we like them both. Picked a lot of stuff at random, asked for guidance here and there. Wasn't disappointed. I think we're about due for another visit.
