Just an FYI for all you NW Burb LTHers the Greater Woodfield Convention Bureau hosts this event at Arlington Park Racecourse on Tuesday,
April 22,2008 from 5-8pm tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Visit www.chefsfest.com I have attended this event a few times and it's a good way to try out different restaurants in the greater Woodfield area. The portions are generous, many of the restaurants give out coupons for free stuff too!

No need to be snide. I have friends who worked for their tourist bureau. They put a lot of effort and pride into what they do.

I'm sure they do, but you must admit, that is an interesting turn of phrase, especially as it relates to restaurants in the Woodfield area.

It's the Greater Woodfield Convention Bureau, so it's not just the major corporate chains on Golf Road. It's a mix of places throughout the northwest burbs.

Sadly, it does look like overwhelmingly like the "big" names are the majority of those participating. Schaumburg does have some good ethnic cuisine, but only the Indian Garden will be there.

    Complete list is here:

What a shame indeed. Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows all have a number of really good Asian and Eastern European restaurants. I hope the organizers invited them to participate in this event. That list of restaurants participating is, imo, quite sad and not at all representative of the best the area has to offer.

You are correct. looks just like major chains for the most part. A few gems in there but not too many. Seems like they must have skipped the minor players

    LTH,

Seems Chef Fests are quite popular, my bride is attending Chef Fest benefiting Elmhurst Memorial (Hospital) Healthcare projects and programs this Thursday. In looking at the list of participants it appears only about 50% are majors.

A worthy cause, which I would happily attend, if not previously committed to participating with Purple Asparagus at the Corazon Community Center

    Enjoy,

For the most part, it looks like the members of the Convention bureau were invited to participate, as everyone on the list is a member. However, not alll dining members elected to participate. Example, Entourage and Le Titi De Paris are listed as members, but not participating. :(

Still, I've been wanting to try Sam & Harry's since they've won so many awards and accolades. They are beyond my current budget though. For $25, it might be worth it to attend this event and only eat at the better places.

I have attended this Chefsfest 3 times before and it wasn't always a bunch of chain restaurants. With the crowds this event brings in, some of the "little guys" simply can't handle the volume. Vittorio's in Palatine does a nice job though. As you said Kim, it's a good way to try out better places beyond your budget. My original point should have been, if you live in the area and have nothing to do on 4/22, for $25 it's not a bad deal!

    Pammyt,

Please keep us informed of more, because there is always someone who will be interested.
