I'm a Sox fan so I'm not familiar with the lay of the land at Wrigley. Didn't I read somewhere that they now have premium beer concessions there? Google hasn't been a help, and I'm going to this afternoon's game so a quick response would be appreciated - please save me from warm Old Style. TIA

Yes, they have some premium beer stands. They are separate from the regular concession stands. They don't have the best stuff, but it's better than the Bud products in the regular concession stands.

Approximate location, by 3rd base lower level eg? Are they purely beer stands, or are they mixed in with the full concessions? thx

I think they are all over the park. Look for a free-standing stand, as opposed to something built in to the park. My recollection is that they have a few small things other than beer - maybe just hot pretzels and peanuts, no dogs. (Speaking of dogs, be sure you don't get your dog from the regular concession stands or walking vendors. They best ones are also on free-standing carts in the main concourse. There is a hot dog cart and a sausage cart.)

Note that I haven't been to the park this year. Things may have changed.

    FastEddie-

Darren has a good memory. There are free-standing premium beer stands in various places around Wrigley. Labatt's Blue, Heineken, Amstel Lite and Corona are among the options. There might be other choices, but I usually go for one of the first three because they are 16 oz beers for the price of a small child versus the 12 oz Corona.

One good place for food is the deck overlooking the Clark and Addison intersection in the upper level. Grilled Italian sausage, brats, dogs, Italian beef, plus a beer stand with good selections. (I'll take a Tecate over a Bud Light or Old Style any day.)

In recent days, there has been a discussion on this topic at BeerAdvocate:

You may need an account to see the thread. The upshot is that there is not any craft beer available at Wrigley, but there is at some of the bars close by, like Murphy's Bleachers.

As soon as you walk into the bleacher section from street level, there is a vendor that sells "premium" beers. I also believe that in the rest of the ballpark, there are a few stands like this. It would be very nice if Goose Island could wrestle their way in there...

Thanks for the heads up re the upper deck patio. Nothing too exciting but 16oz cans of Beck or Heinies for $6.00, which tastes all the better when you see the aisle vendors slinging Bud Light for $6.25 to the Iowans in the seats.

Once the wind shifted to the northeast in the 3rd inning, it was time to leave the park and go to Uberstein. Liters of pristine Hofbrau on tap, and you can watch the rest of your Cubbies game while basking in the warm glow of a plasma TV:

That sounds like a move made by a cub's "fan" from Iowa.

Aw, Da Beef, that's not entirely fair. Although I stuck it out for the entire Opening Day game this year, I did leave before the game ended the year Opening Day was snowed out. Early April games can be brutal depending on the wind and where your seats are.

Fast Eddie -- what do you recommend at Uberstein?

    Hofbrau bier, prosit!

You can't go wrong with the original, get the liter stein so you get the full effect. Quaff one of these and you'll understand how people can guzzle gallons of it at Oktoberfest.

Bartender says inspectors from the mothership in Munich make frequent random visits to make sure everything is up to snuff. Tap lines are cleaned daily, glassware all properly handled, proper temperature and storage, etc. I'll stop here whenever I find myself at Wrigley and the beer has always been in excellent condition. They'll be happy to give you samples of everything, the maibock is also delicious but watch out - 7.2% alcohol.
