There used to be a place in a hotel on LaSalle (or Wells) called Sukumvit, which touted having the "Best Bamee in the City." That place (and its wonderful owners) is long gone, and I have yet to find a replacement for bamee (both the soup and dry varieties, although I prefer the dry).

Hi Ricky used to do a good bamee wonton (with barbecue pork), but since they changed over to Zen Noodles, it's not as good. I find that most Thai restaurants don't even have it on the menu. :(

Anyone have any recommendations for where I can find good bamee?

I miss Sikumvit as well. I wonder what happened to them. They certainly made eating there lots of fun.

Sukumvit was so great when it started out. Towards the end, the dad was often testy. But the food was great. The mom taught me how to make pad thai and green curry.

never been there, but one would hope the namesake (Bamee restaurant on Broadway and Barry) would have the goods

    It hides in plain sight.

The truth of the matter is that--while it may not be on the menu--just about any Thai restaurant will make ba-mii for you. Both ba-mii haeng, or "dry egg noodles," AND ba-mii naam, or "wet egg noodles."

That said, I would strongly encourage you to visit one of the board favourites for these items: Sticky Rice, Spoon, TAC, etc.

At both TAC and Sticky Rice, ask for ba-mii tom yam.
