Just east of Tenuta's Deli is Taco's To Go that caught my eye as I raced to Frank's Diner recently.

A server at Frank's had eaten at Tacos to Go though he had not yet tried their Mexican Eggrolls. On the way back, stopped at Tacos To Go to buy, but not immediately eat, a Mexican taco. Reading the menu and some of their hightlight menu items, you felt a creative spark there:

Among the other notable menu items:
    - Big Gyro burrito as well as a Chicken Gyro burrito
    - House speciality ****BOBS PHILLY****: roast beef, mozzerella, onions and peppers on a French roll
    - Under 'Fries and Stuff:' Barbecue fries, pork hocks, breaded okra, pigs feet
    - Mini dig: Italian beef on french bread & dipped: $1.50
    - Catfish bucket
    - Southern breaded crawfish

Their homemade Mexican egg-rolls are $1.75 each with choices of Mexican-Taco meat, cheese and beans; Chicken, cheese and rice or Shrimp cheese and rice. I ordered the Shrimp variant:

I sampled this maybe an hour after I purchased it. It was still crispy on the outside and warm on the side. I was rather amused to find they had also included an individual packet of sweet-sour sauce that was never used. I am more in love with the creativity than the article itself. I have a sense I will like the Mexican-taco meat version better, because the cheese-shrimp and rice was rather bland.

I will be back to check out some of the unusual menu items. If I don't drive by Tenuta's to find their outside grill open, then I will get back to Tacos to Go a bit quicker. It is always a pleasure to have more options than stomach.

It looks like you already have. That looks aweful. Thanks for taking one for the team.

I've been known to order a Gyrrito from time to time at places that offer both burritos and gyros. I simply ask for a gyros in a large burrito sized flour tortilla. I wonder if that's what they are slinging as their "Big Gyro Burrito."

Have you tried Los Taquitos on 22nd across for the DQ? I LOVE their tacos el pastuer. Every dish is so fresh and you can hear them chop the onions and cilantro for revery order. Hubby likes the steak and beef tacos.

Do they have an el Pastuer cone rotating like a gyros cone?

Yes and the last time we were there they had a big slab of fresh pinapple on the top of the cone and they cut of tiny pieces of pineapple for the tacos.

This place is halfway across the country from Kenosha, but the subject of inappropriate and vaguely disquieting egg rolls made me want to share my own recent experience:

    Image

These egg rolls are, from left: veggie (broccoli, spinach, ricotta & mozzarella), Italian sausage (pepper, onion, & mozzarella), and chicken (peppers, onions and mozzarella). They can be yours at the "wok-style Italian" restaurant, Mario N Wongs, in Denver.

I wouldn't say they tasted bad, exactly; they just tasted wrong.

Though, kinda, also, they tasted bad.
