This was discussed on Egullet a couple of years ago. If you try to order, you get this message:

    Or, as translated by babelfish:

    Aren't Z' a little SICK?
Then you, one proposes to you to eat cheese made starting from HUMAN mother's milk and that connects you? A small precision is essential at this stage: ALL the ELEMENTS, EVENTS, NAMES, MARKS, PLACES and LABELS purely fictitious and/or are used in a diverted way. On the other hand, we would be strongly interessés to have your "hot" reactions. Hesitate-therefore not with us to communicate them by e-mail.

Whew! Thank goodness for that. I was thinking that this seems like one step away from cannibalism.

It's been around so long, I'm surprised the Tribune fell for it. It's so easy to go though a couple of links to find out it's a joke...

Breast milk is produced by humans with the sole purpose of being ingested by other humans.

I was just thinking about how if this was real and there was a market for it, would we next see lactation farms with women lactating for the sole purpose of producing cheese?

Adults consuming by-products of another human being strikes me as creepy.

Of course I know that breast milk is for humans, I breastfed my own daughter.

But feeding babies & making cheese are 2 different things, to me anyway.

I know when I was breastfeeding my son, I was informed about donating excess milk - which can be essential for premature babies, whose mothers may not be able to produce their own, as well as AIDS orphans. The Breastmilk Projectrepresents highly regulated milk banks, IIRC the form you had to fill out was several pages long and included an extremely detailed medical history as well as a blood test. However, I was unable to find any regulations regarding the sale of untested and unpasturized breastmilk, despite the dangers it presents (breast milk can pass on diseases or drugs from the mother) - I did find a couple of articles with apparently anecdotal stories saying women were selling milk on Ebay - but a search of Ebay found only products for storing or pumping milk.

Although the Ban Breastfeeding movement is a hoax, there is still a lot of discomfort about this subject; seven years ago, as a discreet nursing mother, I can remember several incidents where I was asked to stop nursing in (relative) public. I can only assume that unverifiable stories such as these are more of an expression of this discomfort than of the truth.

Julie Deardorff is so stupid she makes my head hurt. I don't know why I read her column since it only makes me angry. Bottom line: If she recommends something, do the opposite.

I don't have an opinion on Julie Deardorff one way or the other, but this is a pretty inflammatory post without much substance to back it up--and probably off-topic.

Fascinating! After having seen chef Angerer on Iron Chef America I'm not particularly surprised he's the one behind that. (And it raises another question: Why would his wife choose to keep her own last name instead of the relatively awesome Angerer? I kid, I kid.)
