I have been a fan of this forum for years, I had the pleasure of meeting G Wiv at a BBQ contest last year. I figured that I should post this event because I know that there are plenty of LTHers who love Louisiana culture and food like I do. We started this boil 9 years ago after a day at jazzfest and decided to bring the boilers up from Lake Charles LA. We started that first year with 300lbs of crawfish. This year we will have over 800lbs! We also make red beans and rice, muffaletta's, corn & potatoes, as well as Andouille, mushrooms etc. The self proclaimed coon asses have since turned over the cooking duties to us and we do several small boils as well throughout the year! The date is Sunday May 25th, this is a Memorial Day weekend tradition now! The price is $25 dollars all you can eat! The festivities begin at noon and is kid friendly early. Abita beer specials all day as well! Hope to see and meet some LTHers. Please give me a call or PM me with any questions.

    Thanks,

    Danny Beck

Spent many hours during the mid 90's at this bar-sounds like a great event-thanks for posting.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully, you'll have some of your excellent wings available too!

I haven't been to Toon's or tried their wings but I've read about them. Last year on another board jayhawk1 wrote, "I also second Toon's Bar on Southport, they have really good jumbo wings!" A month earlier jayh praised Toon's "terrific food, including big and tasty wings."

I still think we have the best wings in the city. However all I am doing is hoping some people who like crawfish and Louisiana culture check out a great party. I did not mention the wings. Thanks, Danny

I'll be the first to encourage you to try them. I first enjoyed them my first summer in Chicago six years ago at the recommendation of a friend. The bar itself seems to have avoided being swallowed up by the Trixification of the neighborhood. The wings are quite large, deep fried with no breading and well sauced. I've had them with ranch though I understand that Toons now serves my preferred blue cheese dressing upon request.

Just wanted to take a moment for a general Toons endorsement. Used to go there a lot when working at Live Bait theatre and I always found the kitchen way better than I expected. When ordering, for example, a nachos platter, at a bar, late at night, you really don't expect too much. But that, along with salads, burgers, etc., were always really good we all really appreciated it.

Just wanted to thank all of you who had great things to say about us at Toons! We take a lot of pride in our food! If you are looking for a fun and out of the ordinary activity this Sunday stop by! We will be cooking up over 750lbs of live Louisiana Crawfish!! This is the closest thing to a New Orleans crawfish boil done here in Chicago!! We also have plenty of our friends from the Crescent City joining us! We are planning to put out one heck of a spread! Start time is 12 noon!

    Thanks,

    Danny

I have to agree with YourPalWill and mrbarolo ... the food at Toons is an excellent example of bar food done well. We live right nearby and love to stop in for wings and/or great burgers.

Sunday looks to be a very nice day weather wise, perhaps me and my family will head down for this event.

I just hope they can live up to the crawfish boils I am used to out @ Cajun Connection. $25 for all you can eat crawfish sounds like a pretty good price, the last crawfish boil I was at cost $20 for 4 lbs of the mudbugs.
