While on a client tour last Saturday. I saw a sign located on 143rd St that read
The Original Mr. Beef Chicago's #1 Italian Beef. I couldn't stop due to an appointment.
I didn't find anything here about it and a Google search came up with little informaion. I did find one small post that said the owners sold the store on Orlean's in 1961 and moved to Homer Glen. Anyone been here or know anything about it?

As an aside I ended up at Augustino's (Rock & Roll Deli) newest outpost located at North Ave. and Rte 59. It sits next to a Steak & Shake and other than the giant piano and guitar they look the same. Inside is a cross between Steak & Shake and a Portillo's Theme spot complete with statues of Elvis and the Blues Brothers.
I odered the Beef with Sweet and Hot, was given my plastic number card ala Culver's and sat at a table to wait. There was no oother customers at the counter when I arrived and two guys behind me ordered subs.
About 5 minutes after they received their food, I inquired as to the status of my Beef and they said it would be right up.
There were a couple of things I really liked ,The sweet peppers appeared to be sauteed and were cut in large slices and the Giardinera was cut in nice size irregular chunks. The bread was ok and held up to the extremely hot juice, beef was thin sliced and spiced just OK.
May go back if I am in the area, but I still can't figure out why it took so long. I didn't have fries so it wasn't that. I hate to think that they nuked it!
