It has literally been weeks since we've had an LTHForum lunch at Khan BBQ, the Little Three Happiness of the second half of the decade. This must not stand! The possible harm from the Large Hadron Supercollider is nothing compared to the disturbance in the Force that could come from not eating at Khan BBQ every couple of weeks. You know that this is so.

Therefore, you will surely wish to be there this Wednesday, at 12:30, for the Wrath of Khan, that is, spicy grilled meats and fine veggie dishes. If the universe ends, just think how silly you'll feel not having eaten at Khan one more time. Feel free to sign up in this thread, or just show up.

    Hi,

The only reason I may not be there is related to transportation. If it is easy on the Edens, then I am there.

    Regards,

No, that one wasn't, actually. But regard the post as amended by your excellent suggestion.

I'm sure it was a brilliantly executed band concert!

    Sorry to have missed you.

Well, I was very happy to see a crowd of no fewer than nine turn up for today's lunch, including newcomer JermAngela as well as my friend Wyatt.

A frightening amount of food was ordered-- I think we were fine with the food for 7 or 8 I ordered for the first 5 people, but then when I ordered for the next 4, it got out of hand-- but chicken boti, frontier chicken, beef seekh kabobs and broasted chicken, as well as pretty much one of each of the vegetable dishes and an assortment of nans and parathas had everyone well fed and several leaving with takeout containers.

Thanks all for coming out, a little Khan BBQ heat was just the thing on a gray and drizzly day.

Yes, it was like an episode of I Love Lucy. They just kept on bringing more and more plates of broasted chicken. I tried to eat them all, but after a while, well it got faster and faster. Mr. Khan looked at me, I was shoving pieces of expertly fried, spicy chicken in my mouth like a chipmuck in November. Finally, I took to putting them in my pockets. Now, the whole Bungalow smells like burning tandoor embers.

And the funny thing, the funny thing, is that the food that kept on coming was the vegetables. Who got the idea tha Khan was about vegetables. I mean it's not like the old days when we needed something for Kerensa. This is Khan, bastion of meat. And the funny thing, funnier thing?, the funnier thing is a lof of those vegetables were pretty darn good (I skipped the okra because I had to keep up with the broasted chicken), but I really liked the dal and the cauliflower.

Fun meeting Angela and seeing Wyatt and all the usual fun crowd. Thanks for setting this up Mike.

The vegetables at Khan are odd. The meats are consistently great, the vegs are consistently inconsistent. This was not one of their better days and yet they were pretty good anyway (I actually thought the okra was damned good today, the rest I've had them better, but they weren't bad, certainly). Considering that we each got to try four different veg dishes for less than $2/person, it's pretty tough to argue with giving them a shot each time, and hoping this is one of their stellar days.

Thanks to Mike G for setting this lunch up! Although I regularly enjoy Indian food, this was my first experience with Pakistani food. It was great to sample all the different dishes, with the chicken boti, okra and cauliflower as my favorites. I must confess that as I arrived late, I was prepared to sit at a separate table, pretend that I just happened to be in the neighbourhood and watch with jealousy as plate after plate of food arrived at the LTH table. I am glad that I did not do that, as I truly enjoyed my first LTH outing and look forwards to future meetings. Thank you for welcoming me and making me feel comfortable, even though I may have "shifted the demographics of the table!" :)

    Hi,

The demographics were largely: do you recall going to a Howard Johnson's or not. I went home to do a little reading on Howard Johnson's to find when Marriot acquired it in 1985, they immediately dropped the H-J company-owned restaurants. The three Howard Johnson restaurants that remain are franchise-owned.

My friend Helen finally saw the charms of Khan BBQ. Her first visit was when we went to break fast at Ramadan. Khan BBQ was hosting this free to community. I guess a meal served precisely at sundown for several hundred people dining simultaneously was not the best first exposure. She brought home leftovers from our lunch, which her sons liked very much. I expect she will be there with her family soon.

Thanks to Mike for inspiring this. Thanks to everyone else that made it so much fun.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
