    Hi!

Have to drop off a family member at O'Hare on Sunday night so was planning on a Mother's Day dinner somewhere in the area. I'm not familiar with anything around there so any suggestions would be welcome.

Best would probably be a steakhouse or "American type" menu (versus Italian, Mexican, Thai, etc). Price isn't too much of a problem--I'm interested in hearing suggestions from mid-range to higher end.

    Thanks!!

Is the Black Ram good? It looks really run down from the outside & by the website photos, the interior looks like late 70's era. And the prices seem really high. I don't get why anyone would go there.
I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

That's a pretty good list of that style of place near O'Hare. I'd second the recomendaton for The Rosewood, based on your description of what you are looking for.

It's kind of French, kind of expensive, but should be another one that might fit your needs:

You need to go in order to understand. It's not run down at all; it's a very nice steakhouse, family-owned (NOT a chain). I've been there at least a dozen times, and I have consistently been impressed. Yes, the decor is conventional steakhouse decor, but that's true of most steakhouses. The food is consistently excellent - everything from the steaks, to the seafood (always fresh seafood, properly cooked), to the desserts (the banana bavarian is exquisite, and even the rice pudding is exceptional). The prices are actually significantly lower than the "big name" steakhouses in the area (see links above). The service is exceptionally friendly; they treat everyone well, and the owner greets many of the customers by name when they arrive. It's a "great neighborhood restaurant" (to coin an expression  ).

Just to clarify, The Black Ram has not been designated an LTH Forum Great Neighborhood Restaurant.

FWIW, they're open for lunch, too - which is a nice "low investment" way to check the place out...

Thank you so much for the suggestions--very helpful!
I'm glad for the clarification about Black Ram too--I had assumed it was a chain, but am much more interested in trying it knowing that it is not!

Thanks again and hope everyone has a great Mother's Day!
