    NEW TIME BELOW

Roumanian Skirt Steak is a fabled dish in Chicago (just read about it right here)-- and as those who had it at the last LTHForum holiday party know, a mighty tasty one. Once the main attraction in the Maxwell Street area, it returned there recently when Manny's started serving dinner. But it's not on the regular menu-- you have to know about it and request it ahead of time.

Eatchicago and I were discussing this delicacy recently and decided that it was an excellent choice for a dedicated LTH community event. And so it shall be, Wednesday the 21st, at 6pm (a trifle early, but Manny's closes at 8 and anyway, it's near the Loop, just pop right over after work).

If you're coming, please sign up in this thread by Tuesday, 5/20. I will call Manny's and preorder a certain number (probably less than 1 per person so we can order some other things). So there will be a little leeway for last minute attendees, but the best way to ensure your full complement of beefy beef-tasting beef is to sign up now. (But how were the portions?)

    See you there!

    Mike-

Sounds great; too bad I already have plans for the exact same time and date with other LTHers.

    Have fun.

Oh crap. Well, that's what happens when things move from Thursday to Wednesday...

Okay, hold the thought of Roumanian skirt steak. Reschedule coming.

Why can't there be two events at the same time? (Not that it matters to me, since I'll be out of town that day.)

Because you'll be out of town that day!

UPDATE: New date, a week later, has been planned. This time I not only looked at the LTH calendar but checked this whole thread, there should be NO conflict, dammit.

    Thanks for planning, Mike.

Happy to see this rescheduled as I had a conflict the first pass, looking forward to Roumanian Skirt Steak and the company.

    Thanks!

P.S. I don't feel that strongly about the skirt steak. If there's a shortage, I'll be happy to have a small taste and something else.

Dammit indeed! I somehow missed the skirt steak at the 2007 holiday party--I think I was busy being overwhelmed by a giant knish! Having heard and read raves about the steak, I've been looking for an opportunity to return to Manny's for a while.... so I was excited to see the original posting for 5/14.

BUT--not a exact conflict, per se--the Evanston Lunch Group is getting together 5/21 at Tapas Barcelona. Somehow I can't picture myself eating paella at 12:30 and being hungry for steak at 6:00--SIGH! Although it looks like Cathy2 may try.... I'll mull this over and let you know before the deadline. Maybe if I fast for a day or two beforehand....

I'll be out of town but let me offer a suggestion. After your steak, consider going across the street to Binny's Tasting Room for a nightcap. I understand a few of you have been known to take a glass of bourbon every now and then. Try the Parker's Heritage ($8), truly a world-class whiskey. You can also get the excellent Pappy 15 for a couple bucks less but, trust me, the Parker's is much better. They also have a fine collection of Scotch that I'm not yet very familiar with. From what I can tell they don't really do cocktails but there's a decent selection of wine and beer, not to mention mezcal.
