I'm starting a thread with this title since there are currently no Google hits for it, and if the mainstream media picks up on the term, I want them to know that dmnkly coined (or at least visualized it, brilliantly) here as part of our community. Foiehibition indeed.

I do note that the "duckeasy" ("duckeasies") has gained some international usage.

Now that the ban is nearly in our rearview mirrors, does anyone actually know of a "duck-easy?" I know a number of places were serving it "complementary" to skirt the wording of the law. But did anyone find someplace where you could give a secret handshake, or a subtle wink, or some kind of password to gain access to the outlawed dish? Aside, that is, from Cyrano's, as listed in the article? (I like the "turtle soup" and special business card idea.)

    How fantastically conniving!

    Et voila.

As of 11:00 PM on Monday, May 15, 2008, there is exactly one Google hit for Foiehibition. Future etymologists will now not have to debate over the origin of this august term the way they do over "Windy City" or "Big Apple." This makes me want to cozy up with the Google[bot] spider, when only it and I are online in the dark watches of the night.

    Santander,

You etymologists just know how to have fun. I'll bet there are people beating down your door to party with you.

Give my regards to all the bots as they drop in.

I would never presume to call myself an etymologist (or linguist of any kind) in such company we share as Amata, Antonius, and many others. But I must say that some of the best parties I have ever been to have been hosted by linguists, and that you have not truly lived until you've been to a Golosa Russian Choir Vodka Bash, which I have participated in hosting since I co-founded the choir in 1997. Chortle if you must.

This thread is basically to say: Bravo, Dom, for Foiehibition, and everything else you do here. We'll kill the fatted liver for you when you return.

Shouldn't "Foiehibition" refer to an event at an exhibition hall with many different vendors showing off various varieties of foie gras? When and where will it be?

    Ha!

Well, I find it hard to believe that I'm the first person to come up with that term, but I realize that holding the earliest known web reference is just as good these days :-)

Once I've trademarked it and made millions off its usage, the fatted liver will be my treat, Santander!
