Yesterday i noticed the http://www.chicagowatertaxi.com had started weekend service from the Michigan Ave and Madison Street Bridge locations to Chinatown. Hopped on the boat and had lunch at Spring World (the $4.99 three-appetizer special). Also, stopped at Captain's Bakery for what i think are the best BBQ pork buns. $2 each way or a $6 all-day pass on all routes. Boat stops at Ping Tom Park. Cross the RR tracks and walk down Wells Street. You will enter the mall/China Place from the northern "Dragon's Gate." Summer Dim Sum here I come! :D

With transportation to Chinatown confusing to many out-of-towners (and taxi service being spotty in that neighborhood), this is an excellent transportation option that combines a river tour of sorts with arrival in the nice park at the end of the ride. Thanks for the mention.

Ping Tom park is also used as the end of the Flatwater Classic, a canoe race from Addison to Chinatown. Great float, and Chinatown's a great way to fill up after paddling the river.

A couple years ago, MrsF was on the river and was thisclose from being dumped on by Dave Matthews Band's bus.

In previous seasons, the water taxi went to River East (North Pier) and made a nice water route to Fox and Obel. (As it stands now the michigan ave stop is only a few blocks away).

This is an excellent resource for tourists exploring Mich. Ave. to take a scenic route to Chinatown for lunch or dinner.

    Best,
    Michael
