I curious to know the function of the free magnetic trivit, that is any function beyond a non-magnetic trivit.

    From the product description:

The Staub magnetic wooden trivet is attractive and will protect your table from hot pots and pans. This trivet combines the beauty of wood with an embedded magnet. Place your cocotte or any other pan on the Staub magnetic trivet, then pickup the pan. The trivet will stick to the bottom of the pan so you can use both hands to carry your favorite dish to the table. The trivet's magnet works on any pan that supports induction, such as cast iron and stainless steel. To see if your cookware will work, see if a magnet sticks to the bottom of your pan.

I imagine it sticks to the bottom of a hot and heavy pot so when you move it you don't have to worry about moving the trivet as well.

This is a great pot. (We bought one that came with a free grill pan and gratin backing dish, though I cannot recall where we bought it! Look around on the internet and you may find this set somewhere.)

I prefer Staub over Le Creuset for three reasons:

    1. The knobs on Le Creuset are made from a type of plastic that is heat resistant up to 375 degree F. You can get metal knobs that can withstand higher heat. The plastic knobs also have a tendency to come off. The knobs on Staub pots are metal and have no issues.

    2. The bottom of the lid on Staub pots have ridges and indentations that help evenly redistribute the water/steam within the pan. This is useful for braising on a stovetop.

    3. I have read - but I'm not fully convinced -- that the interior of Le Creuset pots deteriorates over time and this reduces the performance of the pot. By contrast, the interior of the Staub pots improves over time.

Amazon prices change quite often, looks like the deal is over.
