HI - If your little Mexican Fruit Mkt / Carniceria was having a sale on baby backs for 1.99 / lb, how many would you buy? I bought 12 lbs a few days ago which wound up being 5 slabs. Looks like for the most part, they are "2.5's" (pounds per slab) as my buddy who is a pretty big q snob calls them. He always says that generally smaller is better. I'm more of a spare type person, but I would NOT turn my nose up at a mess of B-backs. At 1.99 lb, my spidey senses are telling me that this is a dern good price. I have freezer space abound. Would you stock the freezer for summer? I'm debating whether or not to go back and grab 20-40 more lbs. I won't be able to smoke any until mid June, but they look ok, although a little on the big side. I skinned and rubbed the first 12 lbs last night, and stuck em in the freezer.

That is a very good price. Would you mind sharing the name of this mysterious store?

I'm almost positive I saw Aldi advertising spares for $1.99lb this week.

Bobak's has spares for 1.69 this week.
I stocked up on spares before Mem Day for 1.49 lb (with tips) @ Ultra Foods. They were decent (small) size too.

These baby backs, however, Stevez, are from a little Mex mkt called Justice Produce in Berwyn. Ogden Ave, a few blocks W of Oak Park Avenue, N side of Ogden.

As long as they are not enhanced, that is a great price. If they are enhanced, I would skip them altogether as the end product is not worth it at any price. Ask them if you can get the ribs in cryovac before they are unpacked (not sure if you were buying from the display counter or not).
