Odd question, I know. I just moved over from Lincoln Park, and I'm having the hardest time finding bars (no food/tavern license) around here that will let dogs in.

In LP, it's almost done as a matter of fact. I had half a dozen dog friendly bars within a 6 block radius of my apartment. Not quite sure why the difference in Wicker Park-Bucktown. It's not as though it's a marginal neighborhood full of aggressive "guard dogs."

Just about everything on Division. Moonshine, Macs, Small Bar, InnJoy, Smoke Daddys, Lotties, really, I can't think of many that don't let dogs outside. Lemmings used to let dogs in, I don't know if they do anymore.

Thanks, but given my breed (Bernese Mountain Dog), I need a tavern license bar that allows him inside. When it's cold enough for him to be outside, nobody has their patios open; when it's warm enough to have the patio open, it's too hot for him to lay outside.

He's really starting to miss our evening of ritual of stopping in a bar after his walk so he can say hello to a bunch of new people. I'm really starting to miss my evening dog walk beer.

So far I've found two pretty good neighborhood corner bars in Bucktown. The Corner on Leavitt and The Gallery on Oakley. It's a start.

I love dogs, I really do, but doesn't it seem at least a bit strange to let a dog inside the bar?

When the weather warmed up a few weeks ago, I took my dog over to Small Bar on Division and they told me that they could not let him sit outside on the patio because they were waiting for a dog license (new city laws). I guess the fines are pretty hefty.

So although these bars had always let dogs on their patios, the city has graciously told them that they now can allow dogs on their patios, they'll just need a special permit for doing so.

Although I like stopping for a beer on a bar's patio with my dog, I've been also frustrated when people bring their dogs in the bar and let them run around. All it takes in one person to complain and no more dogs. My favorite bar, the Charleston, used to let dogs in but now they don't. I can see both sides.

It's not a bar, but you're more than welcome to bring your Berner over to hang with mine and enjoy a beverage or two.

Then you would have been really weirded out by the Map Room about 10 years ago, when there was no ordinance banning dogs. During "dog hours" in the afternoons, there were 2-5 dogs in there at once, sometimes more. Everyone seemed to get along. The same went for Charleston and Danny's.

I was in lemmings and the Bucktown Pub (Cortland and Paulina) yesterday and there were dogs in both bars. The Bucktown Pubs garden is really wonderful.
